Miki Berenyi is best known as the lead singer, rhythm guitarist and founder member of U.K. band, Lush, who The New York Times note were the brilliant, unsung underdogs of the ethereal pop wave that crashed through Britain in the late 1980s and early ’90s. They reunited for a Coachella performance, tour and EP in 2016. Most recently, Berenyi has fronted the bands Piroshka and the Miki Berenyi Trio, who are set to perform in the U.S. this May and June with Lol Tolhurst x Budgie supporting (see tour dates below), and recently shared their cover of Lush’s “Light From A Dead Star” (listen here).

Today, Berenyi announces the North American release of her acclaimed autobiography, Fingers Crossed: How Music Saved Me From Success, out on April 9th via Mango Publishing as well as the global release of the audiobook via Bonnier Books. Originally published in the UK in 2022, the searingly honest and beautifully written memoir by the musician is an incredible account of a trailblazing woman and a seminal band delivered with the vivid, emotional power of an accomplished storyteller.

Pre-order the book here: https://linktr.ee/miki_fingers_crossed.

From the bohemian lifestyle of her Hungarian father’s social circle to the privileged glamor of her Japanese mother’s acting career, Miki’s young life was a blur of international travel, celebrities and peripatetic schooling. Frequent relocation, parental neglect and the dark presence of her abusive Nazi grandmother resulted in crippling shyness, mental health problems and a vulnerability to exploitation. The route out was music – a passion shared by schoolmate Emma Anderson. The teenagers began attending gigs together and would go on to form Lush in 1988.

Talented and exuberant the band became hot property as they moved from pub gigs to Shoegaze icons and finally Britpop darlings. This uncompromising autobiography documents the excitement of playing live, the camaraderie of the gang, the thrill of signing to 4AD and the craziness of Lollapalooza.

But at the heart of the story are Miki’s internal battles: the conflict between her mouthy public persona and her thin-skinned private identity; the trials of being a woman in an infuriatingly male world; and the struggle to find a middle ground between ‘safe’ indie obscurity and ‘sell-out’ international success. Miki also explores her complicated relationship with Emma – one that has fluctuated between camaraderie and rivalry over the years – and addresses the most devastating tragedy of all: the suicide of her best friend and soulmate, Lush drummer Chris Acland.

Told through frank confession, wry humor and emotional honesty, this is the incredible tale of a trailblazing woman and a seminal band.

ST. VINCENT “FLEA” SECOND ADVANCE TRACK FROM NEW ALBUM

ST. VINCENT
“FLEA”
SECOND ADVANCE TRACK FROM NEW ALBUM
ALL BORN SCREAMING OUT APRIL 26

North American Headline Tour Dates Announced

“Flea” Track and Video

hoto Credit: Alex Da Corte

“You will be mine for eternity…”

So states St. Vincent with fiery resolve on “Flea,” the second advance offering from the three-time GRAMMY winner’s rapidly approaching seventh full-length studio album, All Born Screaming, out April 26 via Total Pleasure Records in partnership with Virgin Music Group.

Featuring St. Vincent on vocals and all instruments except drums and bass—handled respectively by Dave Grohl and Justin Meldal-Johnsen—“Flea” is raw desire made manifest atop a foundation of thundering grooves and searing guitar figures. Accompanied by a lyric video featuring behind the scenes footage from the All Born Screaming sessions, “Flea” unveils another dimension of the album’s emotionally apocalyptic side one, following in the wake of the “thrilling industrial sound” (The New York Times) of its predecessor “Broken Man”—currently in its second week at #1 Most Added at Alternative Radio and still amassing critical raves including:

“It’s a volcanic buildup of a song, from the sparsest ticking electronics to a hard-rock stomp to a full-scale pileup of guitars, drums and horns. Clark sings about power, defiance, abject need and imminent breakdown, riding an onslaught of a song that lives up to the title of her album due in April: ‘All Born Screaming.’” –THE NEW YORK TIMES

“…it’s Annie Clark, in all her glory… an artist at the pinnacle of her craft.”– BILLBOARD

“Think Tool covering a Nine Inch Nails–produced Fiona Apple song and you’re circling the vibe.”– FLOOD

“Annie Clark at her louche best, turning rock performance into a game of roiling tension and all-out abandon.”– PAPER

“‘Broken Man’ is defiantly catchy… enthralling and metallic, signaling an exciting new vision”– PASTE (This Week’s Best New Songs)

St. Vincent’s first self-produced record, All Born Screaming is an invitation to test the limits of what is possible–and to then keep going;  Brought to life with the aid of a highly curated roster of friends — Rachel Eckroth, Josh Freese, Dave Grohl, Mark Guiliana, Cate Le Bon, Justin Meldal-Johnsen, Stella Mogzawa and David Ralicke — the album is an unadulterated expression of St. Vincent’s singular vision.

All Born Screaming was produced by St. Vincent and mixed by Cian Riordan. The album’s track listing is as follows:

Hell is Near
Reckless
Broken Man
Flea
Big Time Nothing
Violent Times
The Power’s Out
Sweetest Fruit
So Many Planets
All Born Screaming (featuring Cate Le Bon)
