King Tuff shares "Raindrop Blue" video, from new album, 'The Other', out 4/13 on Sub Pop

LISTEN TO KING TUFF'S "RAINDROP BLUE"
A NEW SINGLE FROM HIS FORTHCOMING RECORD

THE OTHER
OUT APRIL 13TH ON SUB POP RECORDS

North American Tour On Sale Now
Today, King Tuff has shared another new song off his forthcoming album, The Other, out April 13th via Sub Pop Records. "Raindrop Blue," oozing with soulful bass lines and pulsating saxophone melodies, continues Kyle Thomas's new artistic vision as King Tuff. Listen to the song HERE via the Emmanuelle Pickett-directed video below. Pre-order for the album is available now.

Speaking about "Raindrop Blue," Thomas lays out its relevance to the greater story of the album and its relationship to the previously-released song "The Other":

"...I took the hand of the Other...you fell onto my fingers like velvet to the touch...
Is Raindrop Blue the lost forgotten lover? Is she the Other? Is she the Blue Subaru?
Funny story about that Blue Subaru...

I wrote "The Other" in October 2016. At the time it was a fictional story about losing myself and the quest to find the creative spirit again. I imagined myself driving around in a 1982 blue Subaru Brat, which has been my dream car ever since I was a little kid. I would see them driving around my hometown, Brattleboro, Vermont, and I thought the name Brat had something to do with the town itself. It always seemed like the unicorn of cars; you'd only catch a glimpse of one when you weren't looking. So I was driving this car around in my song cuz you can do whatever you want inside a song.

A year and a half later and the album was done. I sent it to my good friend Em so she could take a listen. She's been in school studying dreams and alchemy, and we talked about the dark side of the moon, the flip side of the mirror, the unknowable Other and things in the lyrics which were oddly in line with her studies. She's always had the most poetically surreal dreams as long as I've known her, full of symbols and strange beauty, like she's tapped into some kinda psychic conduit. She was in Vermont but her dreams had been telling her to go to New Mexico. She needed transportation for when she got there, so she was hunting around on Craigslist to find some dusty old high-desert gem she could zoom around in. The first car that popped up: "1982 Blue Subaru Brat in Albuquerque." The exact car from my song. She sent me the ad. I immediately booked a flight out there, bought the car, and drove her back to LA in a blaze of romantic glory.
The lyrics in the song had somehow come true.

It felt like whatever this mysterious "Other" was, it seemed like maybe it was on my side. Helping me along. As long as I had faith in it.

So..is Raindrop Blue the Other? or the Subaru? Probably both and probably neither. But one thing is for certain: I love to dance."

Thomas self-produced the record and brought in Shawn Everett (War On Drugs, Alabama Shakes) to assist with the mixing process. No less hooky than previous records, the new songs ditch the goofy rock-and-roll bacchanalia narratives of earlier records in favor of expansive arrangements, a diversity of instrumentation, and lyrics that straddle the fence between painful ruminations and reconnecting with that part of yourself that feels childlike and creative and not corroded by cynicism. The record features contributions from Ty Segall (drums), Jenny Lewis (vocals), Greta Morgan (vocals), and Mikal Cronin (saxophone).

Thomas views the entire experience of the record as a kind of psychic reset. "I let the songs lead me where they wanted to go, instead of trying to push them into a certain zone. King Tuff was always just supposed to be me. When I started doing this as a teenager, it was whatever I wanted it to be. King Tuff was never supposed to be just one thing. It was supposed to be everything."

On top of all this good news, King Tuff has also announced a North American tour beginning May 3rd in San Diego. Cut Worms will open the shows, and all tickets go on sale this Friday, February 9th. Visit www.kingtuff.life for more updates.

Young Fathers raise anticipation levels with the release of “Toy,” the latest single from their third albumCocoa Sugar, out next Friday, March 9 on Ninja Tune. “Toy” is the third track to be revealed from the album, following lead song “Lord,” which announced the band's return in November, and second single “In My View.” The new track is another enticing glimpse of what to expect from Young Fathers on Cocoa Sugar: something typically unique and exhilarating but leaner, more muscular and self-assured than ever before.

LISTEN TO ‘TOY’ HERE

Cocoa Sugar sees Young Fathers—Alloysious Massaquoi, Graham ‘G’ Hastings and Kayus Bankole—operating with a newfound clarity and direction. Written and recorded throughout 2017 in the band’s basement studio and HQ, the album is without doubt their most confident and complete statement to date, and is set to build on the success of the group’s previous two albums: 2014’s Mercury Prize-winning DEAD and 2015’s White Men Are Black Men Too.

The record has already been met with widespread acclaim; described by Mojo as “an avant-pop masterclass” and Uncut as “a heady joy” while Q Magazine stated “Cocoa Sugar finds Young Fathers at a fascinating juncture: opening up, moving forward, but still existing in a sonic hall-of-mirrors all of their own”

Cocoa Sugar will be available on CD, LP, limited LP and via all digital services. It features a striking visual aesthetic, with cover photography from Julia Noni and creative direction from Tom HingstonCocoa Sugar is available to pre-order via https://youngfathers.lnk.to/cocoasugar

CHVRCHES Announce New Album Love Is Dead, Share Track "My Enemy" Feat. Matt Berninger (of The National)

ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM LOVE IS DEAD

SHARE NEW SINGLE “MY ENEMY”
FEAT. MATT BERNINGER
chvrches cover

CHVRCHES today announce their highly-anticipated new album Love Is Dead, due for release on Glassnote Records on May 25th. Pre-order for Love Is Dead is available NOW.

CHVRCHES are Lauren Mayberry, Iain Cook and Martin Doherty. Love Is Dead is the band’s third album, following their debut The Bones of What You Believe (2013) and its acclaimed follow up Every Open Eye (2015). The soaring success of their first two albums propelled CHVRCHES into new levels of prominence. Love Is Dead is at times euphoric and others bittersweet, it is an album about growing up and “coming to terms with the fact that there are great things in the world and there are awful things in the world and that you can’t get one without the other,” says Mayberry.

Cook adds: “We’re fucked, the world is fucked. But there’s an ellipses at the end. It’s Love Is Dead. Like, how did we get to this point? And how do we move on from this point? It’s Love Is Dead, we’re fucked, what’s next?”

For the first time in their career, Love Is Dead sees CHVRCHES welcome outside influences, with 2017 and 2018 GRAMMY Producer of the Year Greg Kurstin (Adele, Sia) co-producing nine of its 13 tracks, and Steve Mac, who produced “Miracle”.

Today also sees the release of a second song from the album, “My Enemy” featuring The National’s Matt Berninger. "We've all been huge fans of The National for a long time,” says Mayberry. “We had played a few festivals together but really got to know Matt when we were involved in 7 Inches For Planned Parenthood, a fundraising and awareness campaign that he spearheaded. It's really inspiring and reassuring to meet other artists you admire and realise that they are trying to do some good in the world. We kept in touch after that and, when it came time to record My Enemy, Iain and Martin suggested I email Matt to see if he'd like to sing on it. We never realistically thought he'd have time to do it but he replied right away and recorded the track at his house the next day.

“My Enemy” follows first single “Get Out”, which NPR called “the band's most ambitious pop effort to date, all without losing that distinct edge.” The song has been a mainstay of Spotify’s Global Viral chart since release and received a groundswell of critical acclaim.

Praise for “Get Out”
Oh thank heavens, CHVRCHES are back!...It’s almost as if Lauren Mayberry’s voice was made to be matched with Kurstin behind the boards” - NY Magazine
“They’ve come back sleeker and shinier than ever” - Stereogum
“Chvrches are so good at making pop songs that you almost take them for granted, but perhaps it was about time they they reminded the world what they can do given a few synths, a drum machine, and a great frontperson.” - Noisey
“‘Get Out’ backs up the band’s pop claims, bolstered by racing synths
and a powerful chorus fit to blast off from big stages.” - Uproxx
“the track comes loaded with the sort of catchy rhythms and sparkling hooks fans have come to appreciate from Lauren Mayberry and the boys” - Consequence of Sound

Over the course of their career, CHVRCHES have played countless shows worldwide, with each tour’s production reaching new heights and leaping towards the top of festival bills. The band have announced their first US show, as the penultimate headliners at this year’s Governors Ball in New York city on June 3rd. Dead Meadow Share "Nobody Home;" New Album "The Nothing They Need" Out Friday

DEAD MEADOW SHARE "NOBODY HOME"

NEW ALBUM
THE NOTHING THEY NEED
TO BE RELEASED THIS FRIDAY, MARCH 2, 2018

US TOUR STARTS FRIDAY

Dead Meadow are happy to announce that this Friday, they will be releasing a new album, The Nothing They Need (Xemu Records). Previously they shared the album's first single, "Keep Your Head" which perfectly exemplifies the band's unique marriage of Sabbath riffs, dreamy layers of guitar-fuzz bliss, and singer Jason Simon's melodic croon. Today, the band has shared a song from the album, "Nobody Home," which singer Jason Simon told Brooklyn Vegan (who premiered the track) it is "a song about the joy of being alone in solitary places."  Brooklyn  Vegan note, "it's the kind of psych freak-out that Dead Meadow do so well, with fuzzed-out proto-metal riffs, trippy wah solos, and a permastoned vocal delivery. It's great stuff"

In support of The Nothing They Need, and in celebration of being a band for 20 years, Dead Meadow will be touring the US with dates kicking off this Friday, March 2, and hits, among others, BrooklynPhiladelphiaBostonToronto, andChicago before concluding at Levitation in AustinTX on April 26. The full tour is listed below and tickets are on-sale now.

With the release of The Nothing They Need, Dead Meadow's Steve Kille andJason Simon celebrate twenty years of the band with eight songs that feature everyone that has been musically involved with the band over the years. They're joined by original drummer Mark LaughlinStephen McCarty (the drummer throughout the Matador years), and current drummer Juan LondonoCory Shane joins them on guitar for some Feathers era dual guitar interplay.  The album was recorded in Dead Meadows' studio/rehearsal space, The Wiggle Room.

As with the rest of their catalog, Dead Meadow assert The Nothing They Need is meant to be an escape -  "a surreal journey." Yet Kille notes, "I think there is a touch of apocalyptic vibes to the new album especially with the cover art that is being assembled. There is so much rhetoric and negative energy in the bigger picture of the world it is hard to not to have that show through in art. Though in the small world of people I know and we meet on tour everyone is still just as optimistic though it gets harder every day.. I think a lot of the album's lyrics mirror that sentiment."

While Dead Meadow met in and around Washington, D.C.'s punk/indie scene, the trio draws more of its sound from such classic rock legends as Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and Black Sabbath. The trio formed in the fall of 1998 and their widely-acclaimed self-titled debut album was released in 1999. Within a relatively short period, the D.C. trio received offers to tour with everyone from local D.C. acts like The Make-Up and Fugazi to psychedelic rockers Brian Jonestown Massacre. What has followed since are seven studio albums - three via Matador records (Shivering King and Others (2003), Feathers (2005), and Old Growth (2008)) -  two live albums which includes Three Kings, a feature length live film and soundtrack and more tours across the USA and Europe than the band can count.  And while the person behind the drum kit has changed over the years, the core of Dead Meadow -  Jason and Steve -  have continued to play together throughout. Since 2007 they have been based in Los Angeles.
