Grandaddy's New Album 'Last Place' via NPR First Listen

New Album Last Place Out March 3rd on 30th Century Records / Columbia
"While revivals arrive frequently, it's more rare for a band to make a comeback album like Last Place that stands up alongside its best work. Now that Grandaddy is back, it's as good a time as any to rediscover what made this band's music so special in the first place." - NPR Music

Today is the day: you can now hear the brilliant new Grandaddy album, Last Place, in its entirety via NPR First Listen. Last Place, which will be released via 30th Century Records / Columbia on March 3rd, 2017, is the band's first new material since 2006.

On release day, Grandaddy will be playing a very special live streamed show for WXPN's Free At Noon series.  The set will be broadcast live on Friday, March 3rd at noon EST on acclaimed radio station WXPN in Philadelphia, as well as via their audio stream at http://xpn.org/music-artist/listen-live. The event will also be webcast via WXPN and Vuhaus https://www.vuhaus.com. This webcast will be available worldwide.

Grandaddy will also be playing just one show at this year's SXSW in celebration of the new album - taking place March 17th at Stubb's in Austin, TX.

After Grandaddy broke up in 2006, Jason Lytle relocated to Montana, where he happily made two solo albums, and reconnected with the natural world around him.  Eventually, though, life uprooted him again, taking him to Portland, Oregon until he eventually returned to his former home of Modesto, California.  The return to California was practical (he needed to be near his bandmates) but also appropriate:  he had started writing songs that he felt would be fitting for another Grandaddy album.  The result, Last Place, is a perfect addition to the band's celebrated, critically-acclaimed catalogue, that includes their breakthrough sophomore album, Sophtware Slump, and their debut, Under the Western Freeway. It's a symphonic swirl of lo-fi sonics and mile-high harmonies, found sounds and electronics-gone-awry mingling with perfect, power pop guitar tones. Lytle's voice sounds as warm and intimate as ever, giving graceful levity to the doomsday narratives that have dominated the Grandaddy output.

Grandaddy also begin playing their first shows in support of Last Place
next week, starting with a hometown show at San Francisco's Bimbo's 365 Club, and a sold out show at New York City's Le Poisson Rouge.

As Piero Scaruffi puts it, "Royal Trux established themselves during the 90's as one of the greatest rock groups of all time. Not only did they give us the masterpiece of extraordinary scope Twin Infinitives (one of the albums that required decades to be completely assimilated) but they also reinvented the concept of a rock group, a concept that was born with the Rolling Stones (a group that had inspired the duo but just as importantly provided them with a definitive example on which to expound)".  Nothing less than "the world's greatest rock and roll band" would serve as their standard!
Royal Trux began calling themselves the "World's Greatest Royal Trux Boogie Band" in the 90's (after they had signed to Virgin records) and few argued with them (some simply had no idea what "Boogie Band" meant) - even then. With a number of genre-setting and defying titles under the duos belt and more than 25 years later, the pair's music continues to sound just as progressive, vital, and confounding. Fronted by a willfully non-archetypal female singer that took on archetypal status as the years went by and the world caught on, Jennifer fit the bill for a new breed--hence the commencement of a generation of women looking to her for inspiration, if not straight up emulating and commodifying her look. Royal Trux have done more to define the look, attitude and sound of rock & roll than any other band in the genre's history-- (no surprise given the fact that they created the genre and the history!). A genre which is inextricably linked to their "Bitches Brew" approach,"everything in the pot whether you like it or not". From world music, punk rock, new age, jazz, metal, electronic, southern rock, and the rest; Royal Trux found a way to include and love it. Yes it was and is Royal Trux that changed the way in which we think of music! With the genre melting and melding inclusivity abound these days (the album Thank You was recorded years in advance of the aptly due sentiment) the Truxian language has been appropriated, absconded and recited for years. That type of organic perpetuation only happens with original thought worthy of it's own definition and Royal Trux are worthy inventors, creators, dedicated lifers and odds are, whether you know it or not, if you find yourself reading this you've been touched by Royal Trux.
Now that you know a little, Royal Trux have a lot coming up including the  unprecedented fly-in tour of Euro/and UK festivals (Royal Trux were notorious for sailing the QE2 back and forth as a means of travel/Hagerty had a known issue with planes deep seated enough that pretend/stand in for Neil (David Pajo and Allen Licht) were brought in for The Reading festival and Japanese dates back in the day) as well as a journalistic and musical trip back to Austin Texas and the "new" SXSW. Tour dates are below and who know what else the future of Royal Trux holds!

Goldfrapp Remixed By Joe Goddard and Danny Dove, Album Out 3/31

Self Portrait by Alison Goldfrapp
Goldfrapp release their brand new Anymore Remix EP today, which includes mixes from Joe Goddard and Danny Dove. Whilst the latter created a mix undeniably aimed at the dance floor, Joe Goddard has taken the track to a dark and minimal place.
Of his remix, which premiered on FADER yesterday, Joe Goddard says:

"With this remix I took tracks like ‘Freak' by LFO and ‘Two Of Us' by Supermayer as my inspiration and had fun with my Eurorack Modular System - I wanted to make something tense and chaotic.”

Of his remix, which premiered on Out yesterday, Danny Dove says:

"It was a real treat to get a mix for Goldfrapp. I've been a fan for years and I knew getting the opportunity work on a track was going to be fun. They are really genuine with their music and their creativity, so I knew I could do something cool and fresh and they would get it"

Listen to both remixes HERE.

As announced on 6 Music earlier this week the band will be one of the headliners at this year’s 6 Music festival in Glasgow on Friday March 24. Goldfrapp is also confirmed for the Blue Dot Festival at Jodrell Bank on July 8th and will be performing at The Roundhouse in London on March 27th – tickets sold out in less than two hours.  They have also recently announced 2 shows in New York at Brooklyn Steel on April 26th and 27th.

Goldfrapp follow up 2013’s album Tales of Us with the deep, dark and electronic musical palette of Silver Eye, their brand new studio album, made with an eclectic collection of new collaborators. Alison and Will spent 10 days in Dallas with John Congleton, Grammy-winning producer of St. Vincent, John Grant and Wild Beasts. In London they teamed up with electronic composer Bobby Krlic, aka The Haxan Cloak. Brian Eno collaborator Leo Abrahams added abstract guitar textures. The album was mixed by David Wrench (The xx, fka Twigs, Caribou).

Silver Eye is out March 31st and is available to pre-order HERE.

Indie Surf Rock Outfit Go Fever Shares Self-Titled Debut Album

Go Fever Shares Self-Titled Debut Album Go Fever
Today via Independent Release

Today, February 24th, 2017, Austin-based indie rock band Go Fever releases their debut self-titled album. Produced and engineered by Danny Reisch (Delta Spirit, White Denim, Other Lives), the album is a solid listen all the way through, each track filled with insanely catchy pop-leaning hooks, three part harmonies, and classic rock and roll influences. Adding a layer of depth behind each sunny surf pop melody lies frontwoman Acey Monaro's profound and vivid lyrics. Impose recently said, "Monaro's charming vocal arrangements are incredibly accessible, featuring a handful of truly memorable hooks."

Raised in an Australian country town, Acey Monaro dropped out of school at 14, left home a year later, then married a man twice her age. Divorcing her husband after 7 years at the ripe old age of 26, she began writing songs and performing solo gigs in Sydney. Her strong voice and crafty lyrics, evoking Tracey Ann Campbell as much as J. Tillman, were all inspired by her own brimming storybook. She soon garnered a dedicated audience, prompting an early reviewer to compare her simultaneously to Feist and Emmylou Harris.

Acey fell in love whilst on holiday in Austin, Texas with Go Fever bass player Ben Burdick, eventually making the permanent move to the Lone Star State to marry him and record her debut EP with Brad Bell (War On Drugs, Arcade Fire, Spoon). In 2016, Acey assembled a group comprised of members of her favorite Austin bands to form Go Fever.

Catch Go Fever live at their record release show tonight at Cheer Up Charlies in Austin and at SXSW at Swan Dive on March 15th. Go Fever is available now!

"Lerche has crafted one of the year's best atmospheric synth-pop tracks, coupling club-ready rhythms and lock-yourself-in-your-room sadness with sublime prowess."
- The 405

“Violent Game” is a charming little tune, or at least so it seems. After a minute of whimsical guitar shuffling, the drums rush in, soon followed by the bass — and off we’re running as Lerche waxes moribund romance for an increasingly propulsive seven minute."
- Stereogum

"(On "Soft Feelings")The initial sonics are cold and hard like steel on goose-bumped flesh—the very opposite of soft feelings—this then amps up to an 80s disco-glorious pop song."
THE 405 has premiered Sondre Lerche's newest single entitled "I Know Something That's Gonna Break Your Heart".  "I Know Something..." follows the previous singles "Violent Game""I'm Always Watching You/Too", and "Soft Feelings". Sondre Lerche is currently on tour in Europe and will begin a U.S. tour in April. Tei Shi Releases New Song "How Far," New Album 'Crawl Space' out March 31st

Tei Shi is back with her highly anticipated debut album Crawl Space due out on Downtown / Interscope Records on March 31st

The FADER has delivered the latest track from the LP with the excellent "How Far" which is available now. They describe the song as a "sultry power ballad" writing "Tei Shi's acrobatic vocals shine once again on "How Far,"... The track - which pairs gut-wrenching lyrics like "If it pleases you to see me struggle/ I will" with dreamy guitars and buzzing production - explores the thin line between love and destruction. And it'll stick with you."

Valerie Teichier aka Tei Shi, notes, "How Far is a song about the line towed by two people between love and destruction. It talks about the process of attempting to change one another in a relationship, and the final desperate point--the last attempt--before acceptance."

Tei Shi will be hitting the road with MØ next month, a perfect pairing of 2 of the most dynamic new voices in pop music. Tei Shi will also be playing SXSW with a packed schedule to be revealed soon. All dates are below.

The pre-order is also now available.

"Tei Shi's vibrant music video for "Keep Running"... is a hypnotic visual expression of the dynamic track." Billboard

"Tei Shi may have been a long time coming, but "Keep Running" feels like the debut of an artist properly establishing her musical identity with plenty of potential for success." V Magazine

""Keep Running," a silky slip of R&B pop, a little Jesse Ware, a little Solange. The video, directed by Agostina Gálvez, which you can watch below, features the Colombian-born singer back to brunette, in various satiny numbers, curving her body with the sensual ease with which she delivers her melodies." Noisey

59 Additional Handwritten Lyrics, Photographs and Memories to Published in New Extended Edition
GEORGE HARRISON - THE VINYL COLLECTION Vinyl Box Set Includes Thirteen Albums From 1968-2002, plus 12” Picture Discs

(Los Angeles – February 24, 2017) The Harrison family is proud to announce the release of George’s autobiography I Me Mine – The Extended Edition  (Genesis Publications) and George Harrison - The Vinyl Collection (UMe) box set featuring all of the musician’s solo studio albums in one collection for the first time today, the eve of what would have been his 74th birthday.

George Harrison’s I Me Mine was originally published by the specialist book publisher, Genesis Publications in 1980.  It became the first of many collaborations between George and Genesis founder, Brian Roylance. In conversation with his friend and former Beatles press officer Derek Taylor, and in a first-person commentary that accompanies his songs, Harrison's own words recount everything from his upbringing in Liverpool, to early Beatlemania, his spirituality and philosophy.  This new extended version of the book now spans the complete length of Harrison’s career in music, told in his words and through 141 songs with hand written lyric sheets faithfully reproduced in full color. Now stretching to 632 pages it features lyrics to more than 50 songs not previously included, as well as new photographs, many unpublished until now.

To commemorate the book’s release Genesis Publications will be holding a pop-up exhibition and store at Shepard Fairey's Subliminal Projects, Los Angeles on Sunday, February 26.

The exhibition will include reproductions of George Harrison's handwritten lyrics and personal commentary on his songs, pictures from the family albums, and original portraits of Harrison by Shepard Fairey.  Rare limited editions on display will include: I Me Mine, Songs by George Harrison 1 and 2, Concert for George, Fifty Years Adrift and Live in Japan.

A special I ME MINE package has been created for the exhibition, consisting of the new book, a poster and book bag; the first 100 customers will receive copies signed by Shepard Fairey.

George Harrison - The Vinyl Collection includes all twelve of George’s studio albums with exact replicas of the original release track listing and artwork. Also included in the box set are George’s classic live album Live In Japan (2LP), and two 12” single picture discs of ‘When We Was Fab’ and ‘Got My Mind Set On You’.  All the discs are 180-gram heavyweight vinyl and are housed in a high-quality two-piece rigid slipcase box. The original analogue master tapes were used for the new re-masters and were cut at the legendary Capitol Studios to ensure exceptional audio quality throughout.  The individual albums from the collection will also be available separately, with All Things Must Pass as a limited edition title.

San Francisco's 20 Minute Loop celebrates 20 years of music-making with “Songs Praising The Mutant Race,” its first album in eight years, out today.

San Francisco-based 20 Minute Loop celebrates 20 years of music-making with “Songs Praising The Mutant Race,” its first album in eight years, out today.

20 Minute Loop album + poster art by Sara Lautman (The New YorkerThe BelieverThe Pitchfork Review).

Twenty years of 20 Minute Loop is celebrated today with the release of Songs Praising The Mutant Race, the San Francisco-based band’s first album in over eight years, an achievement marked not only by gray hair, ringing ears and creaky knees, but a shit-ton of songs, stories and shows.

The album features stripped-down re-workings of favorites from the band’s catalog – check out the video for longtime favorite “Mercury Vapor” via
BLURT, as well as one brand-new song “Giftgas,” which addresses the Holocaust in the context of a pop song with masterful creativity, sensitivity, and reverence. Atwood Magazine has premiered the track along with an extensive editorial discussing its meaning.

Formed by Greg Giles (vocals, guitar) in 1997, and joined by Kelly Atkins (vocals, keyboards, flute) shortly thereafter, the core duo of 20 Minute Loop follows-up the release of five albums, with this, their sixth, and arguably most passionate, recording yet.  The seemingly permanent shelving of 20 Minute Loop due to impossible scheduling, newborn children, and brain-rotting graduate studies, has now given way to Songs Praising The Mutant Race, which offers up stripped down and reinvented versions of ten favorites from the 20 Minute Loop catalog, one cover song, and one never-before-released tune. The record proves that bands may die, but songs don’t. The collection breathes with both the wisdom of age, and renewal.

Inspired by the reactions of longtime fans at a series of intimate house concerts that 20 Minute Loop performed upon initially reforming in 2014, Songs Praising The Mutant Race finds the group recording as a trio in very similar circumstances: live in the room at Ninth Street Opus studios in Berkeley.

In re-imagining, re-arranging, ironing out, and stitching this material back together, the band wanted the songs to shine without being burdened by too much production. Here we have the songs and singers laid bare, accompanied by overdubs from mostly acoustic instruments, including viola, trumpet, flute, accordion, wineglass organ, and more.  The result is a perfect depiction of the vibe from one of the living room concerts that inspired the record, with the band’s visceral lyrics and accompanying tempos taking on a woozy, syrupy overtone that makes these songs feel fresh. Sonically, these new versions focus on the vocal interplay between Giles and Atkins, who sound more like they were born to sing together than ever before.

“Singing with Greg has been the single most important musical relationship of my life,” Atkins explains. “It truly feels like ‘coming home’ for me. The nimble instinct that you have after singing with someone for 20 years is a once-in-a-lifetime treasure.”

That special vocal combination is especially affecting on the album’s opening number and first single
“Mercury Vapor,” about which Atkins explains, “The re-do of this song includes Caitlin Tabancay Austin adding a third harmony, which absolutely brings the song to life. It’s frenetic, neurotic and makes me feel like I have a nervous tic every time I sing it – but in a good way.”

As a band that came about and went away in the age of the Compact Disc, 20 Minute Loop is very excited for Songs Praising The Mutant Race to be its first album issued on vinyl, and they are doing it with style. In addition to the usual formats, fans can purchase a beautiful vinyl edition of the album with a jacket illustrated by Sara Lautman, whose work has previously appeared in The New Yorker, The Believer, The Pitchfork Review, The Awl, and other publications.

Songs Praising The Mutant Race by 20 Minute Loop is out now. Members of 20 Minute Loop are available for interviews. Contact
