“Total Entertainment Forever”

Australia & UK shows added to 2017
international schedule
Father John Misty has delivered a hilariously absurd new video for “Total Entertainment Forever,”  from Pure Comedy, his acclaimed new album [link here].

In “Total Entertainment Forever” we find George Washington donning a virtual reality helmet and experiencing a simulation wherein Kurt Cobain gets crucified by corporate fascists.  The video stars Father John Misty along with Thomas Bayne, Macaulay Culkin, Jack Dishel, Spencer Fox, David Garland, Toby Goodshank, Adam Green, Mical Klip, Tei Shi, and Dan Shure.

“Total Entertainment Forever” was directed by Four Gods and a Baby (Adam Green, Thomas Bayne, Toby Goodshank, Macaulay Culkin), edited Jordan Galland, and features cinematography by Ryan Foregger and costume design by Cara Alpert and Jessie Abraham.

Father John Misty’s Pure Comedy debuted at #10 on the BillboardTop 200 consumption chart, last week (April 13th), his highest ever chart debut. The album also peaked at #1 on the vinyl, Rock, Current Alternative, and Americana/Folk charts, with additional placements: Physical (#2), Current Albums (#3), and Digital (#7) (see Billboard April 21st).

At radio this week, “Total Entertainment Forever” was the #1 most added single with BDS reporters. Meanwhile, Pure Comedy has now spent two weeks at #1 album on both NACC 200 (college) and FMQB SubModern Albums charts, and  #3 on the FMQBNonComm Albums chart.

Father John Misty’s incredible stage performances at Coachella drew raves from the likes of The Guardian, L.A. Times, Rolling StoneUSA Today, and more. “At the sundown set on the Main Stage, Misty proved that the act is up, and he has found his voice. It's a gorgeous one. Backed by a small orchestra and a trim-suited live band, Misty looked like he had just got out of the shower after surviving a three-day bender in a luxury hotel. Snakeskin moccasins, sunglasses at night, windswept long hair — every detail was spot-on. But let's be clear — he's not kidding anymore. He never was, really, but now he's devoted all his wit and psychedelic musings into writing the best songs of his life, and playing them beautifully,” says the L.A. Times.

Father John Misty has added UK dates to his 2017 international headlining tour this fall in support of Pure Comedy. The new dates include November 1st in Edinburgh at Usher Hall November 2nd in Glasgow at O2 Academy,  November 5th in Manchester at O2 Apolloand November 7th in London at Hammersmith Eventim Apollo.

Father John Misty’s spring & summer international festival schedule includes Glastonbury (June 21st-25th), Down the Rabbit Hole Festival in Ewijk, Netherlands (June 23rd-25th), Roskilde (June 30th), Splendour in the Grass (July 21- 23), Fuji Rock (July 28th - July 30th), Winnipeg’s Interstellar Rodeo (August 18th), and Portland, Oregon’s Project Pabst (August 26th).

Collapsing Scenery Shares New Track via BlackBook | Out Digitally + 12" Vinyl May 18th

Photo Cred: Olivia Jaffe
LISTEN & SHARE: Collapsing Scenery - "Straight World Problems"
"drawing on urbane post-punk references like Cabaret Voltaire and A Certain Ratio... one of 2017’s wickedest grooves" - BlackBook
NYC/LA-based duo Collapsing Scenery shares new track "Straight World Problems" viaBlackBook. The band's Reggie Debris explains that the track is about "the awful frequency with which new regimes and new systems mimic the worst qualities of those they replace." The single will be available digitally + on 12" vinyl on May 18th, along with remixes by Oliver, Tom Of England, Chris Holmes, Certain Creatures,  and Henri. Collapsing Scenery will be holding a music video screening event in NYC tonight (4/26) at Cafe Henrie (116 Forsyth St), where they will preview their video for "Straight World Problems" (directed by Richard Kern). They have also announced new tour dates, listed below:
May 19- Single Release Party @ The Friend - Los Angeles, CA
May 20 - 14th Factory - Los Angeles, CA
May 22 - Blond Bar - San Diego, CA
May 24 - Brick and Mortar - San Francisco, CA
May 25 - 1234 GO! - Oakland, CA
Collapsing Scenery’s music and creative process represent the world as the band wishes the world were: playful, polyglot, intense, committed, politically engaged, free, open, and without boundaries or hierarchies.
The band formed in the terrible autumn of 2013, under a pall of paranoia and disgust, as predator missiles rained on Middle Eastern heads and each day brought news of further surveillance of innocents and more aggressive pursuit of those who had the nerve to inform us about it.
Against this backdrop, erstwhile collaborators Don De Vore and Reggie Debris put aside the stringed instruments on which they’d first learned to play music and on which they were comfortable and versed, and assembled an impressive pile of analog electronics: samplers, step sequencers, synths and drum machines, all supplemented by effects pedals usually applied to guitars.
From the largely improvised sessions, many accompanied by drummer Ryan Rapsys, the seeds of songs began their germination. Lyrics that Debris had been amassing over years of political rage and frustration began to find their homes when paired with ad-libbed instrumentals. Melodies and cadences alchemically emerged as the words settled into their natural rhythmic patterns.
These elements create dizzying music that by turns touches on punk, industrial, techno, hip-hop, free jazz, soul, disco, folk balladry, and whatever other spirits happen to inhabit the recording studio at any given moment.

Start North American Tour With Laura Marling Tonight

'Destroyer' EP Out Now

Classic California country, filled with golden guitar tones employed in the search for salvation.” – Stereogum

It’s easy to compare Carol to Karen O or Grace Potter as she sings with a liquid drawl, elongating phrasing and punching up phrases so that they hit with the power and purity of a drunken stupor.” – Consequence of Sound

“Carol has stayed true to her roots while embracing the psychedelia of California rock — and making some damn good music along the way.” – Village Voice
Today, CLRVYNT shares the video for Valley Queen's single "Stars Align". The song is featured on their recent EP 'Destroyer'. When talking about the video the band said, "This video captures, more realistically, what the past year has been for us, lots of time on the road, away from our families, working on our relationships in and outside the band." The band starts their month long tour with Laura Marling in Vancouver tonight.

The Los Angeles 4-piece released their first-ever EP, Destroyer, this month. Singer and songwriter Natalie Carol leads a band reminiscent of Fleetwood Mac and My Morning Jacket with vocals evocative of Florence Welch. The band's sound brings to mind the soul of Motown and the power of southern rock. "Carol presides over ambling Americana jams that positively soar,” said NPR Music upon including the EP’s single “Stars Align” in their SXSW Austin 100. Filling out their sound is Neil Wogensen with bass and vocals, Gerry Doot's drums and Shawn Morones on vocals and guitar.

Nikki Lane On Conan Tonight; With Loretta Lynn on CBS This Morning Saturday

“As unapologetic as Johnny Cash’s middle finger.”  Rolling Stone
Nikki Lane’s critically acclaimed third album, Highway Queen, is out now via New West Records and available digitally, on compact disc, LP, and cassette HERE. In celebration of the release, Lane will perform the album’s lead single “Jackpot” on Conan tonight, April 26th, and will make an appearance on KCRW’s “Morning Becomes Eclectic” this Friday, April 28th. Additionally, this week’s CBS This Morning Saturday airing will feature Lane and her band performing two tracks from Highway Queen at Loretta Lynn’s historic home in Hurricane Mills (Check Local Listings). Loretta Lynn joins Lane for a very special duet of her 1966 hit song “Don't Come Home a Drinkin’ (With Lovin’ On Your Mind),” of which Lynn has recorded a new version for her upcoming album Wouldn’t It Be Great. Lane will also perform at this year’s Stagecoach Festival on Saturday, April 29th.
Prior to the release of Highway Queen, Entertainment Weekly featured an exclusive, full stream of the “boisterous" and "raucous" new album; while Vice’s music site Noisey ran an in-depth interview with Lane and praised, “Highway Queen is a forceful, rollicking collection of fiery country tunes that places [Lane] toe-to-toe with any outlaw in Nashville," adding, “it's her best yet.” The piece premiered the standout track “Send The Sun,” which MTV News calls “a waltzing love song that could be Lane’s best shot at a mainstream country crossover hit, if that’s even what she wants.” Previously, Billboard premiered the music video for “Jackpot,” which Rolling Stone included in their “Our Favorite Songs Right Now” roundup calling it “a trip to Vegas you won't forget.” Watch the video HERE. Rolling Stone Country originally announced the album by revealing the music video for the title track, which can be viewed/shared HERE. Of the song, they hail, “It's gritty Southern rock with an extra spike of danger – her guitars always sound like they're running from the law, the drumbeat rolling on the adrenaline of a high-speed chase.”
Following Lane’s Walk of Shame debut and 2014’s Dan Auerbach-produced All or Nothin’, Highway Queen was co-produced by Lane and fellow singer-songwriter Jonathan Tyler and features the Texas Gentlemen as Lane’s band. A Greenville, South Carolina native, Lane is also a fashion entrepreneur as the owner of the popular vintage clothing boutique High Class Hillbilly. She has lived - and been heartbroken in - Los Angeles, New York and Nashville, so it’s no surprise that her music seamlessly crosses musical genres with lyrics steeped in the doomed perseverance only a true dark horse romantic knows. Like a true wanderer, her sound crisscrosses musical genres with ease, while the lonesome romantic in her remains. “Love is the most unavoidable thing in the world,” Lane says. “The person you pick could be half set-up to destroy your life with their own habits -- I’ve certainly experienced that before and taken way too long to get out of that mistake.”

“La Araña Es La Vida”, is the fourth and strongest Kid Congo & The Pink Monkey Birds' album yet for In The Red Records, summoning the Mexican muse of The Great Spider Goddess of Teoticuhan, who sprouts hallucinogenic morning glories and protects the underworld, or in Kid’s eyes, the world of underground music.  Recorded at The Harveyville High School gym in Kansas, guitar slinger and singer, the legendary Kid Congo Powers (The Gun Club, The Cramps, Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds), bassist Kiki Solis (Baby Baby Dance With Me, Knife in The Water, Rhythm of Black Lines), drummer Ron Miller (Switch Hitter, Up The Academy) are joined by Chicano, Mosrite playing guitarist Mark Cisneros(Medications, Deathfix) on this self-produced ball of wax. “La Araña Es La Vida” rocks n rolls it’s way thru a planet of Glamazons (Psychic Future), blisters with the tricks of a “Magic Machine” then gets to work out a low rider groove on“Chicano Studies”. Tales of gender bending, disembodied heads, gente from La Puente and even a TCB-era, Elvis-inspired rave up on “Karate Monkey” is merely a smatter of the magic on this platter. The band hav been touring since its release last year and now join Me First And The Gimme Gimmes for select shows, beginning May 2nd in Portland.

Laibach Announce New Album "Also Sprach Zarathustra"

Silence is worse; all truths that are kept silent become poisonous.”
Friedrich Nietzsche, Thus Spoke Zarathustra
LAIBACH announce the release of a brand new album, Also Sprach Zarathustra, the follow up to 2014’s SPECTRE, out on Mute on July 14, 2017.

The music for the album was originally created for a theatrical production of Thus Spoke Zarathustra(Also Sprach Zarathustra) based on Friedrich Nietzsche’s philosophical novel of the same name, which premiered in March 2016. Also Sprach Zarathustra is an update of the music Laibach created for the play, directed by Matjaž Berger for the Anton Podbevšek Theatre (APT) in Novo Mesto, Slovenia.

On May 1, Laibach open their tour with a performance in Jeonju, South Korea, making them the first rock band to perform in both North and South Korea. The dates also include a performance in Zagreb with the RTV Slovenia Symphonic Orchestra, who feature on the new album. Full details below.

Laibach’s infamous North Korean
tour (in 2015, on the anniversary of the DPRK’s liberation from Japan) is documented in Liberation Day, a film directed by Morten Traavik and described by MOJO as “a humorous, disturbing, illuminating and sometimes moving immersion into an anomalous communist mirror-world …” Liberation Day is currently screening at film festivals worldwide, for the latest details go to http://www.liberationday.film/

Thirty-five years on from their genesis in the then-Yugoslavian industrial town of Trbovlje, Laibach are still the most internationally acclaimed band to have come out of the former Communist countries of Eastern and Central Europe. Founded in the death year of the country’s founding father Tito, and rising to fame as Yugoslavia steered towards self-destruction, Laibach can make you think, dance and march to the same music.
