Fourth Album Recreational Love Out NOW -STREAM NOW via Spotify

"Recreational Love , delivers more of the same smooth, dance-y tracks the band has always done so well." - American Songwriter

" ...Kurstin and George combine the muted sophistication of jazz with the undeniable people-pleasing qualities of synth-pop into one spritely package. After a decade together, the symbiotic relationship between these two continues to pay off, and Recreational Love is their slickest release yet." - Under the Radar

"This record is a dance album at its core, but it has a chilled undercurrent that gives it a sensual vibe...George and Kurstin have made a soundtrack for laid-back summer nights." - ABC News

Los Angeles-based duo The Bird and the Bee recently released their fourth album Recreational Love on Rostrum Records. Following a five year gap since their last release the new songs met with much fan rejoicement, a plethora of glowing reviews and rapid radio support the length and breadth of the USA - making it onto both college and specialty radio charts. The band performed just two record release shows - in Los Angeles and New York City but have now announced more live dates, including the Taste Of South Lake Festival in Pasadena on October 10th.  They will also make stops in San Francisco at Social Hall on October 28th, in Chicago at Lincoln Hallon November 1st and in Minneapolis at Cedar Culture Center on November 2nd

PRESS HERE  to watch The Bird and the Bee's music video for radio favorite "Los Angeles."

In July, the band stopped by NPR's Studio 360 to perform a couple tracks + discuss the new album.   PRESS HERE  to watch The Bird and the Bee perform "Please Take Me Home" + listen to the interview and the band perform their first single "Will You Dance?"

PRESS HERE   to watch the video for "Will You Dance?" which features comedian Patton Oswalt and The Big Bang Theory's Simon Helberg.

Recreational Love   is available now. Recreational Love came to life over a half-decade of songwriting and recording. "We didn't mean to take so long but life ended up getting in the way, in a great way," says vocalist Inara George, who formed the duo with multi-instrumentalist Greg Kurstin in 2005. In the midst of pursuing other projects - George also sings in the indie-folk supergroup the Living Sisters, Kurstin's a Grammy Award-nominated producer who's recently worked with SiaCharli XCX, and Beck- the two met most Friday mornings at Kurstin's studio to dream up their latest batch of finely textured retro-pop. With a hint of R&B adding some warm grooves this time around, Recreational Love captures the easy intimacy of their collaboration and lets listeners slip into the band's own charmed and secret world.

Though it's The Bird and the Bee's first album of original material since Ray Guns Are Not Just the Future (a 2009 release that the A.V. Club praised for its "exploration of carefree, happy-making music"), Recreational Love perhaps more closely follows their 2010 album Interpreting the MastersVol. 1: A Tribute to Daryl Hall and John Oates. At turns sophisticated and sweetly off-kilter, dreamlike and dance-ready, the forthcoming album strips away the densely layered sound of The Bird and the Bee's earlier efforts to let their silky-smooth melodies shine through.

Tour Dates
October 10      Pasadena, CA @ Taste of South Lake Festival
October 28      San Francisco, CA @ Social Hall

Edward Sharpe And The Magnetic Zeros Announce Live Album, Due Out October 9th

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros' Announce Live In No Particular Order: 2009-2014, Due Out October 9th.

Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros will release their debut live album on October 9th via Community Music. The collection includes cuts taken from the band's shows, festivals, and studio sessions.
The band is putting final touches on their fourth LP due out in early 2016 on Community Music. It will be their first completely independent release.
You can watch "If I Were Free" from their Daytrotter session in Troy, OH here:
Screen Shot 2015-08-25 at 12.07.37 PM
The album spans six years of the band's career, which includes classics such as "Home", "Janglin", and "Up From Below", as well as fan favorites "Truth" and "Bad Bad Love" from singer Alex Ebert's 2011 solo record Alexander.
Here's what Alex had to say about the release:
To our amazement, it’s been seven years since our first show. We’ve grown up in that time. Beauty and heartache and joy stretched over that time. Our wills were tested and maybe even bested in that time. But mostly what a triumph that time has been…
We smiled “so much my face hurts”, as you’ll hear. We stressed plenty too, frowned and pained, but mostly we were doubled over laughing or riding our bicycles – and danced – we did a lot of dancing. And we played.
We went from friends to family in that time. We became (and I hold this word as near-sacred) a Band in that time. And here is an album that spans that time.
20 songs from that 7 year frame, as tips of the hat to that time we shared with you – our of appreciators, our co-conspirators, our people.
Live,
- Alex
All proceeds from the album go to the band's not-for-profit 501(c)3 Big Sun Foundation, which is dedicated to facilitating more sustainable and communal living throughout the world.
Pre-order is now available on iTunes and their official online store. iTunes pre-order will include instant downloads of "Better Days" & "If I Were Free" (Daytrotter). For those who pre-order from their online store, the band will randomly select five fans to win a signed copy of their 3-LP gatefold vinyl.

I Need A Dodge: Joe Strummer On The Run

I Need A Dodge: Joe Strummer On The Run

Coming to the US on October 16th

"Poignant doc... A snapshot of a man - not a rock star -
looking for catharsis in the most unlikely of places." - NME

Produced and Directed by Nick Hall, this is the story of Joe Strummer's self-imposed exile in Granada in 1985/6. It will be released on DVD by MVD on October 16th and comes packaged with a cassette of a Spanish radio interview with Strummer, a postcard, sticker, and pin.

"This is Joe Strummer at a crossroads in his professional and personal life. Initially his trips to Spain seemed to be little more than an anecdote but this story says so much about Joe coming to terms with life after The Clash," said Hall.
Johnny Green, The Clash's legendary road manager said of the film, "I glowed - I felt uplifted. Once again, it was as if I had spent a little time with my dear lost friend, Joe Strummer. I was hooked all through - the story is compulsive. More to the point, you have perfectly captured the brooding melancholia, that shy underside, which was a compelling component of Ol' Joe. I Need A Dodge is fabulous." The film also received a special mention at the In-Edit Festival in Barcelona.
Heading to Spain in 1985 to flee the disaster that was the implosion of The Clash version two, the band formed in the wake of Strummer firing Mick Jones and aftre Topper Headon left the band. The new line-up's Cut The Crap album had largely been shunned by both critics and the public alike andStrummer needed space. Telling a Diario De Granada interviewer that he had come "to feel the pain of the wound," upon arrival in Granada, Strummer found himself firmly subsumed into the city's musical and cultural fabric. He was welcomed with open arms by local acts 091 and bigger-fish Radio Fortuna, who all met up at the Silbar.
"When we met Joe it was like a miraculous apparition," said Jose Ignacio Lapido, 091's guitarist. It was Radio Fortuna who facilitated the purchase of a set of wheels for Strummer. Tracking down a Barreiros, essentially a European edition of the Dodge-Dart, became a mission. As Santiago Auseron, the Radio Fortuna singer said, "It looked cool, it just looked a bit mad. Which at that time suited Joe very well."
Strummer was delighted with the huge car which he thrashed around the streets of Granada and Madrid. However, having parked the car in the capital when he flew back to the UK for the birth of his daughter Lola, he forgot where it was and never saw it again. I Need A Dodge! Joe Strummer On The Run is partly the story of the search for the car, and partly the story of Strummer's own search for meaning and redemption in those wilderness years.

Strummer  launched an unsuccessful attempt to find the car, making an appeal for information on Spain's Radio 3 in 1997. With witnesses disagreeing on the colour and style of the car - agreeing only that it was registered in Oviendo - and some claiming never to have seen it, filmmaker Nick Hall's quest seems unlikely to succeed, yet his investigation does unearth the truth about this period of Strummer's life that has largely been ignored.
Installing himself in the producer's chair for the recording of 091's album, Strummer's micro-management led, rather than to the boost these star-struck musicians were hoping for, to a growing sense of disquiet and wasted studio time. The album eventually surfaced, having finished off to the record label's specification rather than the band's, and was disappointing.
The Dodge is an emblem for Strummer's time in Spain, his ambition, personal style and, in a way, the nature of those troubled days in general. When he is pulled over by the police, it is revealed that he doesn't even have a license to drive. Drawing on the recollections of his friends in London and in Spain, his partner Gaby Holford, and the members of 091 and Radio Fortuna, this a revealing story of a search for much more than just a car.
"It was an escape. He was a man on the run. He was getting away from the tension in London," saysSantiago Auseron.
Joe Strummer did, indeed, need a Dodge.

The DVD package can be pre-ordered directly through MVD here, or on Amazon here.

Sharkmuffin Gets Psychedelic in New "Chartreuse" Video

Sharkmuffin Reveal New Video for “Chartreuse” via Death + Taxes

“On their debut LP Chartreuse, Brooklyn power-punk band Sharkmuffin show that they have mastered the craft of heavy, unapologetic, sharp-pop songs.” – Impose

“It’d leave you breathless if you weren’t humming along.” NPR

“Brash and unapologetic…this is a vicious band with plenty of teeth.” Consequence of Sound

Brooklyn’s Sharkmuffin venture into the realm of psychedelia on their newest video for “Chartreuse,” which premiered on Death + TaxesThe summer-inspired music video involving mini-golf, sunbathing, and drink spiking was directed by Darkwing’s Rich Gold, and it’s in support of the group’s titular track off Chartreuse, their debut LP released earlier this month on State Capitol Records.

When asked to comment on the video, Sharkmuffin said, “If you mess with Sharkmuffin, we'll drug you and make you play in our band.” Free drugs and membership into an established band like Sharkmuffin sounds more like a Kickstarter perk than a threat.

If you’re in the New York area, make sure to welcome the duo home from their extensive tour on September 1st @ Brooklyn Bowl.

Netflix cult hit 'Wolfcop' creators team up with Canadian band Shooting Guns for video premiering at NPR

Cult hit film Wolfcop creators team up with soundtrack band Shooting Guns for awesome video, premiere by NPR
Popular and acclaimed horror-comedy film a recent Netflix 'Movie of the Week'

Watch & share "Barnburner" video HERE

"The instrumental psych-rock band from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, knows how to choogle, burn and rip like Hawkwind thrown into the middle of a Mad Max set. That's why director Lowell Dean tapped Shooting Guns to score Wolfcop, a 2014 horror-comedy that's exactly as ridiculous/awesome as you think it is." -- NPR

Canada's award-nominated psych sextet  Shooting Guns  premiere a new video via NPR today for a song from their soundtrack for the acclaimed cult horror-comedy film Wolfcop. The video for "Barnburner" was specially made by the film's creators, featuring further wild exploits of the Wolfcop character, available to watch and share HERE. (Direct YouTube link HERE.)

Shooting Guns' recent  Barnburner EP was released via L.A.'s RidingEasy Records.  The sometimes heavy, droning and sometimes  Goblin -esque set is available to  hear and share   HERE .

The EP's tracks are culled from Shooting Guns' soundtrack to Wolfcop, which has taken in $30 million since its release in 2014. Wolfcop was the Netflix 'Movie of the Week' in April 2015.

Hailing from Saskatoon, SK, in the heart of the Canadian prairies, JUNO and Polaris Prize award nominees Shooting Guns are hard at work fortifying the heavy end of the psychedelic spectrum,  haunting the foggy moor between Sabbath-styled doom riffery and heavy pulse-riding kraut-rock.

Shooting Guns scored the soundtrack to Canadian horror-comedy WolfCop and released the official soundtrack in 2014 in partnership with One Way Static, RidingEasy Records, and Cinecoup. Their sophomore LP, Brotherhood of the Ram, released in 2013 through RidingEasy Records was nominated for the 2015 JUNO Metal/Hard Album of the Year as well as the Polaris Music Prize. Their debut LP, Born To Deal in Magic: 1952-1976, was also nominated for the Polaris Music Prize in 2012.

The Barnburner EP is available on 7" vinyl and download via RidingEasy Records  as of July 14th, 2015.
