Blackest Ever Black announces 12" EP for Tarcar

“We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful what we pretend to be.”

A modern-day revenge tragedy in six parts. Symmetrical, finespun, almost courtly; but quick-tempered with it, and far from blood-shy.

A picture emerges: domestic disturbances, pissing on the compost heap, noise complaints from hateful neighbours. Sulking, pouting, goading – a hierarchy of needs. Cold leaves and Christmas. Body-clocks betrayed. Staying up late to collect bottles to smash in the carpark across the road. Marijuana and make-believe. Cracking this thin ice with deft stomping aplomb.

Due out December 15, 2014, in an edition of 300. Recommended if you carry a torch for AC Marias, Brenda Ray, General Strike, The Poems, Robert Storey or other such angels of shut-in dub dysfunction.

Mince Glace
Blackest Ever Black

A1. Game Is Up
A2. Visions Of The Night
A3. Emboldened
B1. Loathing And Fear In December
B2. Refugees
B3. Fireball

And finally, we’re very excited to share the news that King Tuff will perform Black Moon Spell track “Eyes of the Muse” on CONAN Wednesday, December 17th.  Meanwhile, you can now watch his awesome performances of “Black Moon Spell” and “Madness” on Last Call With Carson Daly.
Black Moon Spell, featuring the highlights “Eyes of the Muse,” “Headbanger,” and the title track, was produced & mixed by Bobby Harlow at Studio B in Los Angeles, CA, with the exception of  “I Love You Ugly” and “Radiation,” which were produced by King Tuff. Black Moon Spell is available now through theSub Pop Mega Mart,  iTunes and Amazon.
What people are saying about King Tuff & Black Moon Spell:
“Thomas wins the 2014 glam-rock revival, plain and simple; Black Moon Spell is loaded with sterling examples of the genre from front-to-back.” [First Listen] - NPR Music
“Los Angeles-based singer-guitarist Kyle Thomas turns his love for Black Sabbath-style metal and T. Rex-style glam into exuberantly scuzzed-out-neo-Seventies guitar rock…But the real treat is his musical showmanship and the grimy guitars, especially on songs like the sweetly lascivious “Sick Mind.” He transforms his heroes’ black magic into debauched fun.” - Rolling Stone
“Crunchy riffs, sugary power-pop harmonies and a general beatific dudeness… Your fantasy coast-to-coast road trip will be poorer without this." - The Guardian

A scuzzy mix of garage rock and power pop, it's catnip for radio DJs in the spirit of The Who and Big Star. King Tuff is a he, not a band: Kyle Thomas has made three records as King Tuff, and the new one is called Black Moon Spell. "Eyes of the Muse" is an irresistible blast of guitar-driven pop with wild-man, Keith Moon-esque drum parts. ["Heavy Rotation" via "Morning Edition"] - NPR
“Thomas is a master craftsman with pedigree and Black Moon Spell is scuzzy, wired and bulging with Marc Bolan vocals, riffs Jimmy Page forgot to stick on a Zeppelin album and a bunch of outrageously catchy choruses. Big fun." - NME
“Kyle Thomas' King Tuff returns fiercer than ever with his take on psychedelia and classic rock, with generous doses of headbanging, humour and sentimentality. Black Moon Spell is an impressively diverse album, from the ballad "Staircase of Diamonds" and slick greaser tune "Eddie's Song" to the pared down acoustic "Ugly" and Ramones-y "Sick Mind.” [8/10, Review] - Exclaim!
“If the self-titled record was the test to see what exactly King Tuff was capable of, Black Moon Spell is the streamlining of those results, adjusting them to achieve maximum impact. If you found the replay value of King Tuff to be pretty high, this one’s going to raise the bar.” - Passion of the Weiss
"Heading straight back into the studio with a mission to freak the fuck out, what emerges is sheer, primordial garage rock ooze. Unrelenting from the off, Black Moon Spell is visceral rock 'n' roll, all blood, sweat, tears and outrageous riffs.” - Clash
"Black Moon Spell is defined by cataclysmic, thrashing crescendos and the kind of grubby riff that tends to be found in Jack White’s “DON’T OPEN: TOP SECRET” drawer.” “His most impressive bit of songwriting yet.” - DIY
“Kyle Thomas has made noise with a lot of different bands: Happy Birthday, Feathers, Witch. But he really hit his artistic stride when he renamed himself King Tuff and started knocking out snotty, scabby, attitudinally glammed-out garage rock. King Tuff’s new album Black Moon Spell... rips and snorts and kicks and struts.” STEREOGUM
Now, with Black Moon Spell, Thomas seizes that amphetamine groove and launches it into a glittering explosion. It’s an album whose fiber is built on the smoky cigarette haze of a dimly lit dive bar — best served with whiskey and a raucous crowd. Even through charges of distortion and screeching, fuzzed-out guitar, the hooks are catchy as hell, churning out infectiously sunny waves and sharply angled guitars. Thomas’ energy is palpable, and his magnetism smacks of the nervy core of late ’70s rock. -Consequence of Sound
"For his latest concoction, Sub Pop slack-rocker King Tuff has filled his broiling, metaphorical cauldron to the brim with incantatory snarls about “witches’ brew”, searing guitar solos and bucketloads of blood, ‘hot winter’ sweat and so on, with the outcome an intoxicating potion of big ol’ glam-rock proportions.” -Dots & Dashes
"King Tuff is the epitome of American Rock, he is larger than life with huge riffs and even crazier lyrics." -Louder Than War
“From the moment Black Moon Spell surges into life through shudderingly distorted, powerful guitar riffs and hauntingly aggressive vocals, it’s clear that Tuff means business.” - Crack Magazine
“Fourteen songs packed full of sex, classic rock references, parties, teenage rebellion, weirdness and downright stupidity… Black Moon Spell is one hell of a ride.” - London in Stereo

Dais Records to re-issue William S. Burrough's "Nothing Here Now But The Recordings"

In 1980, Genesis P-Orridge and Peter “Sleazy” Christopherson (then of Throbbing Gristle renown) travelled to New York City to meet up at the fortified apartment, known as The Bunker, of famed beat writer and cultural pioneer William S. Burroughs and his executor James Grauerholz to starting the daunting task to compile the experimental sounds works of Burroughs, which, up until that point, had never been heard.

During those visits, Burroughs would play back his tape recorder experiments featuring his spoken word “cut-ups”, collaged field recordings from his travels and his flirtations with EVP recording techniques, pioneered by Latvian intellectual Konstantins Raudive.  Throughout the next year, P-Orridge, Christopherson and Grauerholz would spent countless hours compiling various edits, each collection showcasing Burroughs sensitive ear and keen experimental prowess for audio anomaly within technical limitations.

By the time 1981 came through, Burroughs had relocated to Lawrence, KS in which to escape the violence and mania of New York City life.  It is in Lawrence that P-Orridge and Christopherson put the finishing touches on the record that would be known as “Nothing Here Now but the Recordings”.  The album would come out in the Spring of 1981 as the final release for the shuttering Industrial Records, brought about by the dissolution of Throbbing Gristle.  The album remained out of print until 1998 when John Giorno and theGiorno Poetry Systems included the album on a multi-disc retrospective CD box set compiling the majority of Burroughs seminal recordings.

Dais Records is honored to have worked with the Estate of William S. Burroughs to finally reissue, for the first time since its original release in 1981, a proper album reissue of William S. Burroughs “Nothing Here Now but the Recordings” in its original vinyl format to celebrate the centennial anniversary of Burroughs. Fully remastered from the original master tapes in a limited edition of 1,000 vinyl copies.

Little Boots Unveils Two New Tracks "Pretty Tough" and "Heroine"

"Pretty Tough," is a darkly hypnotic, synth-heavy gem." - SPIN Magazine
"Heroine" is a gorgeous production from start to finish, and endlessly replayable." - Idolator

With the imminent “Business Pleasure” EP set for release on December 1st, Little Boots rewrites the rules of the pop book once more, seizing control of the reins and travelling further down her own unique path. The infectious tunes and beats are still intact of course, but now Victoria Hesketh has joined forces with esteemed leftfield producers such as Com Truise, Peter Wade and Simian Mobile Disco’s Jas Shaw to create something entirely in a league of its own.

“Taste It”, the lead track from the EP featured Little Boots’ glacial vocals set against minimalist beats to unsettling yet addictive effect. Meanwhile, new track “Heroine” (premiered via the UK's Guardian) imbues the electronic landscape with a sense of elegant melancholia, and on the menacing “Pretty Tough” (which premiered via SPIN Magazine) she takes on the naysayers with the righteous warning “You think I’m pretty, oh well, I can be pretty tough”. It’s just another intriguing glimpse at the off-kilter world that Hesketh is constructing for herself, and reason why the reinvention of Little Boots is certainly one worth getting excited about.

J Mascis: Tiny Desk Concert

Watch: J Mascis’s “Tiny Desk Concert” via NPR Music
You can now watch J Mascis’s wonderful “Tiny Desk Concert,” featuring Tied to a Star tracks “Stumble,” “Drifter”/”Heal the Star” and the Dinosaur Jr. classic  “Little Fury Things” (from You’re Living All Over Me).NPR Music’s Bob Boilen says of the performance, “The loudest guy in the world came to the “Tiny Desk” to perform some of his quietest music...for years a guy who's turned my ears red, showed up armed with just an acoustic guitar. I even had an amp for that guitar all lined up, but he decided to not plug in. So we get a rare treat: a low-key J Mascis, performing emotional songs...If you think Mascis draws all his power from sheer volume, this ought to convince you otherwise (see NPR Music November 22).

Public Enemy Reissue Albums Available Today

Lenticular Album Cover & Multi-Disc CD/DVD Bundles Available Now at RespectTheClassics.com

For review copies and contest giveaways contact me! michael@tynickabattle.com

New packages include original albums and rare bonus tracks, with booklets featuring essays by The Roots' Questlove and Wax Poetics' Andre Torres

Los Angeles, California - When Public Enemy's second album, It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back, was released in 1988, "it completely upended the way records are made. It challenged the concept of reinvention in recorded music," writes The Roots' Amir "Questlove" Thompson in the booklet that is included in the deluxe two-CD/DVD reissue of the album on Def Jam/Universal Music Enterprises (UMe), available now along with its well-regarded follow-up,Fear of a Black Planet, which came out just two years later. In his liner notes, Wax Poeticsmagazine editor-in-chief Andre Torres calls that album, "the brilliant bookend to a classic hip-hop trilogy... Though Millions is the more critically acclaimed and well-known, an argument could be made for Fear's triumph as the strongest album of the three."
The Deluxe Edition of It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back includes the original album, executive produced by Rick Rubin and Bill Stephney, and produced by Hank Shocklee, Keith Shocklee, Eric "Vietnam" Sadler and Carl Ryder (aka Chuck D), better known as the Bomb Squad. It features the classic tracks "Bring the Noise," "Don't Believe the Hype," "Louder Than a Bomb" and "Rebel Without a Pause." The second disc includes 13 rare bonus mixes, among them the original "No Noise" version of "Bring the Noise," instrumental versions of "Rebel Without a Pause," "Night of the Living Baseheads" and "Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos," as well as the soundtrack version of "Fight the Power" from Spike Lee's groundbreaking Do the Right Thing movie. The third disc is a DVD of the 1989 VHS release Fight the Power... Live, directed by Hart Perry and long unavailable for sale. It includes the original videos for "Fight the Power," "Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos" and "Night of the Living Baseheads" along with several live performances. The platinum-selling album was named one of the top 100 of all time by Time magazine, and was ranked #48 on Rolling Stone's list of the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time."

The Deluxe Edition of Fear of a Black Planet includes the original album, also produced by the Bomb Squad and featuring the hit singles, "Fight the Power," "Welcome to the Terrordome" and Flavor Flav's "911 Is a Joke." The second disc includes 18 rare bonus mixes, among them, the almost 10 minute-long "Enemy Assault Vehicle Mixx (Medley)," three separate remixes of "Can't Do Nuttin' For Ya Man!;" an uncensored and extended version of "Anti-Ni***r Machine"; instrumental takes on "911 Is a Joke," "Power to the People," "Revolutionary Generation" and "War at 33 1/3," plus three separate mixes of "Fight the Power," including the "Flavor Flav Meets Spike Lee" take, featuring Branford Marsalis on sax.

The original LP version of Fear of a Black Planet will also be released in a collector's vinyl edition for the first time in 15 years, with a special "fade to black" 3D cover that, when turned to the left or right, turns black, with just the band's iconic cross-hairs visible.

Fear of a Black Planet, which celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2015, finished #300 on Rolling Stone's list of the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time" and was added to the Library of Congress' National Recording Registry in 2005. The album is certified platinum by the RIAA for more than one million shipped, peaking at No. 10 on the Billboard 200. Writes Wax Poetics editor-in-chief Torres in the liner notes, "Though it sits in the shadow of It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold us Back, Fear of a Black Planet is a formidable contender for one of the finest hip-hop albums ever recorded."

These Deluxe Editions are part of a yearlong, ongoing celebration marking the 30th Anniversary of the iconic record label founded in 1984 by Rick Rubin and Russell Simmons. Its influence and impact on modern music, culture, and lifestyle is unparalleled.

November 25, 2014 - (Burbank, CA.) - Gary Clark Jr. will premiere a new video for his track "When My Train Pulls In," from his debut album Blak And Blu, on NOWNESS.COM beginning December 1st.

The video, a seven-minute long narrative that feels more like a short film, was directed by up-and-coming director Carmela Makela. The daughter of design studio founders Laurie Haycock Makelaand the late graphic and multimedia designer Scott Makela, Carmela is known for her provocative work, having previously shot a steamy video for Atmosphere's "Ain't Nobody."

For "When My Train Pulls In," Makela assembled a talented team that includes established cinematographer Steve Annis, who has shot videos for UNKLE, Temper Trap, Calvin Harris, The XX, and Florence & The Machine, and rising actor Keith Stanfield, who appeared in the indie film Short Term 12 and stars in the upcoming civil rights film Selma, plus biopics about Miles Davis and N.W.A. On set, Carmela created a unique, family work ethic, bringing her vision to a high level of craft and emotional power.
