About King Krule:
   
As King Krule, 18 year old south-east London based singer/producer/songwriter Archy Marshall has quietly and stealthily crafted a reputation for himself as one of the most raw and startling voices of a new generation. With his unexpectedly deep and mournful baritone tracing fissures of disappointment and social disorientation to devastating effect, Marshall has harnessed the inchoate frustration and fury of youth and translated it into a series of brilliant singles released on the likes of True Panther Sounds and Rinse over the past few years.

Now comes 6 Feet Beneath the Moon, his first full-length on XL Recordings/True Panther Sounds, and with it, the much anticipated unveiling of the full scope and scale of Marshall's vision. Over the course of 14 tracks, Marshall's passions and confusions are rubbed raw and laid bare, the only connective tissue throughout it all being one of searing lyrical clarity paired with a confounding musical deftness which utterly belies his tender years. From the opening clarion call of "Easy, Easy" it is abundantly clear that this is a breathtakingly bold and arresting sonic worldview, as his songs, produced by Marshall along with Rodaidh McDonald (The XX, Savages), open up to become a loose knit meditation on regret and discontent, loss of faith and renewal of hope, and optimism in the face of desperation.

Eschewing much of his previously released material, 6 Feet Beneath the Moon firmly yet soundly rejects any notion of contemporary trends or peers to occupy its very own unique place on the music landscape, oscillating gently between the classic 50's soul of Gene Vincent and Elvis Presley to the minimal, avant-garde experimentation of Penguin CafĂ© Orchestra, to even the electronic smog and dub textures of Marshall's beloved Rinse FM. This is a record where the nakedly bluesy stomp of the likes of "A Lizard State" and "Easy, Easy" sit effortlessly next to the low-end frequency and shimmering beats of "Neptune Estate" and "Will I Come," after all. It is reflective as much of Marshall's own eclectic tastes as it is of the frenetic pulse and rhythm of the city around him, particularly the rapidly changing south-east areas in which he grew up. There is a genuine grittiness and world weariness ingrained here, as exemplified so succinctly when Marshall sings, "Hate...runs through my blood" on the stunning "Out Getting Ribs," the track which started all the fuss. 

All these esoteric textures and fidgety, off-kilter rhythms make perfect sense as an album however, especially when you consider that incredible voice. Whether he is singing ruefully of youthful disaffection and "the heat of my own treason" ("Ceiling") or spitting out venomous lines like "I'm not going to crack like you cracked...I don't want to be trapped in the black of your heart" over the jittery "A Lizard State," its clear that something which marks Marshall out is his stunning ability to turn intense emotional peaks and troughs into spectacular pieces of artful, atmospheric and anthemic balladeering.

Some of the imagery is disturbing to be sure (as on the closer "Bathed in Grey" where he offhandedly murmurs that he "there was blood...found a body in the dark") but the songs are also imbued with genuine heart as well, as epitomised on his heart rending update of "Out Getting Ribs." Taken as a whole, 6 Feet Beneath the Moon is the sound of a young man growing up - not for nothing is this album being released, unconventionally enough, on a Saturday, which also marks Marshall's 19th birthday - and attempting to grapple with the realities of the world he inhabits, an unsparing dissection of the social decay that has begun to set in around him - and a fascinating, brutal journey it is too.

Brian Eno Announces New Album With Karl Hyde 'Someday World'

Brian Eno and Karl Hyde come together with a new album to be released this May on Warp Records.  Someday World comprises nine songs, composed and sung by Eno & Hyde together with a highly distinguished cast of supporting musicians, including Tessa Angus, Nell Catchpole, Marianna Champion, Will Champion, Kasia Daszykowska, Don E., Darla Eno, Georgia Gibson, Andy Mackay, John Reynolds and Chris Vatalaro.

The release was produced by Brian Eno with 22 year old Fred Gibson, continuing an ongoing collaboration between Karl and Brian which sees the two together on a complete album for the first time.

“A lot of the nicer cities I know are cities built on hills, and the cities are beautiful because the buildings have a challenge to adapt to. They have to mould themselves around the geology that they've formed upon. And that always makes for very interesting buildings, because they can't just be blocks, they have to somehow morph around the environment. A lot of the constructions on the album were deliberately irregular and awkward.

I had a big collection of 'beginnings' sitting around waiting for something to galvanise them into life, to make them more than just 'experiments'. That something turned out to be Karl Hyde.”

LOS ANGELES, CA - FEBRUARY 25, 2014 - Legendary singer/songwriter Mike Love, co-founder of The Beach Boys has officially released "Pisces Brothers," a solo single in tribute to The Beatles' George Harrison, who would have been 71 today.  The previously unreleased track was written in 2004 and inspired by a shared trip to India in 1968 when Love joined The Beatles, Donovan, actress Mia Farrow and others in search of spiritual enlightenment through the teachings of the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.

For Love, the song is a special reminiscence: "This being the 50th anniversary of The Beatles coming to America, I wanted to commemorate this incredibly significant trip we all took together to India, at the Maharishi's invitation. It was enormously influential on all of us, most especially George. The song is really sentimental for me, and meant to honor George Harrison's remarkable contribution to music. And how, in this one moment in time, we got together, as the song says, not fortune or for fame, but for enlightenment."

Mike Love titled the song "Pisces Brothers," as he and Harrison shared the same astrological sign, and celebrated their birthdays together in India. A number of Beatles and Beach Boys songs grew out of the 1968 trip including the Beatles' "Dear Prudence" and "Sexy Sadie" as well as The Beach Boys "Anna Lee, the Healer." Love has continued the practice of Transcendental Meditation for over 40 years.

On February 20th, Love received The Ella Award by the Society of Singers, where he joined a prestigious array of previous honorees including Smokey Robinson, Elton John, Celine Dion, Barry Manilow, Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, and the award's namesake, Ella Fitzgerald. The event, held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, was filled with one-of-a-kind musical performances. Al Jardine, David Marks and Bruce Johnston, as well as music legends, Bill Medley, Dean Torrence, Micky Dolenz, Christopher Cross and America all performed and spoke of Love's legacy in music and accomplishments as a singer and songwriter. Stars including Rita Wilson, Lucy Lawless and John Stamos also delivered poignant tributes to Love and his extraordinary half-century career in music.

For the first time ever, David Lee Roth and Mike Love took the stage in a duet of "California Girls" which was a hit song for both of them. Love also brought The Waters Family (also honored by the Society of Singers) on stage to debut a new original Mike Love song, "Unleash the Love."

Blood Red Shoes are now streaming their new, eponymously titled album a week ahead of release. The Brighton, UK duo produced and engineered their 4th album by themselves when they relocated to Berlin for 6 months in 2013.

"For this album we packed up all our stuff, got in a van and drove to Berlin, where we lived for months in a rented studio space," explains Steve Ansell. "No producer, no engineer, no A&R people, just us two in a big concrete room in Kreuzberg, jamming and recording our songs whenever we wanted, how we wanted with nobody to answer to except ourselves. It came out as our rawest, heaviest, sexiest and most confident sounding record so far".

The Notwist’s Close To The Glass, featuring the singles “Kong” and the title cut, will be out tomorrow, Tuesday February 25th in North America on CD / LP / DL via Sub Pop.
NPR Music says of the album, “If the new Close to the Glass is any indication, The Notwist sounds fully refreshed: From its corker of a single ("Kong") on, the album showcases a light touch in a frequently collage-based sound that brims over with buzzing, springy, playful urgency. Throughout Close to the Glass, The Notwist lets many sides of its sound peek out, as straightforward pop-rock melts together with the pulse of Krautrock until they become indistinguishable. But, like its most recent predecessors, the album never feels chilly, even when the band wanders through a nine-minute instrumental ("Lineri") late in the proceedings. Even then, no matter how many machines manipulate The Notwist's sound, they never drown out the human heartbeats at its center (see “First Listen” February 17th).
In related news, The Nowtist’s Markus Acher takes over as editor of Magnet Magazine all this week (see “Guest Editor” February 24-March 2nd). At radio, Close To The Glass was the no. 1 most added at album with CMJ radio reporters, which led to the cover of this week’s CMJ New Music Report (see "New Music Report" March 3rd issue).
The Notwist recently premiered the official video for “Kong,” the lead single from Close To The Glass, an animated visual directed by Yu Sato and featuring illustrations from Tim Divall. The video for “Kong” is based on a true story that involved Marcus Acher and his family being trapped in their home during an Ammer River flood in Weilheim, Germany.  During the experience, the young Acher resorted to fantasy, secretly hoping a superhero would save his family as the waters rose around them. It's no wonder why The Zombies asked Mystic Braves to open their L.A. show last year. While the hometown favorites were barely even a blip on their respective parents' radars when Odessey and Oracle was released, the psych-steeped five-piece sounds like they stepped straight out of the '60s. And not in an obvious, someone's-been-studying-their Nuggets-comps-until-the-grooves-give-out sort of way, either. We're talking a richer, fuller plot of references (garage-borne greats like The Electric Prunes, The Chocolate Watchband and The Music Machine) that filter the band's hook-centric purple haze through robust organ rolls, runaway guitar riffs, heat-stroked horns and a rhythm section that can only be described as "restless".

Especially on Desert Island, a scrappy extension of the self-titled debut Mystic Braves dropped in 2013. From the ravenous opening remarks of "Bright Blue Day Haze"—the first song frontman Julian Ducatenzeiler wrote for the outfit, making it their mission statement in more ways than one—right on through the wild-eyed melodies of "Earthshake," the filler-free effort is more aggressive than their last album yet about as immediately accessible as vapor-trailed rock music gets these days. It's sunshine in a bottle, really, which can only be expected from a group with such deep California roots.
"The west coast has it all really—beaches, mountains, deserts, cities, suburbs," explains Ducatenzeiler,  who's rounded out by drummer Cameron Gartung, guitarist Shane Stotsenberg, bassist Tony Malacara and organist/tambourinist Ignacio Gonzalez. "Our sound is merely a byproduct of the environments we grew up in and the experiences we had. We're not trying to deliberately channel '60s music, either; we simply write sensible pop songs from the heart with psychedelic textures and tones. It just comes natural to us."

Cinema audiences will see the Tales Of Us film transition beautifully into a live 50-minute dramatic theatrical performance by Goldfrapp including classic songs and selections from the spellbinding new album.
The Tales Of Us film was co-created by Alison Goldfrapp and director & writer Lisa Gunning (Nowhere Boy, Seven Psychopaths, Salmon Fishing in the Yemen). The marquee creative team behind the live cinematic event includes Executive Producer, Catherine Ugwu, MBE (Executive Producer of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Opening and Closing Ceremonies); critically acclaimed set designer Shona Heath (Dior, Valentino, Prada) who also created the iconic owl that graced Goldfrapp’s Seventh Tree album artwork; and lighting designer Rob Sinclair (Vampire Weekend, Pet Shop Boys).

‘Music to make babies to’ is just one way to describe the sound of Norwegian bass player and solo artist Maya Vik.  Although the press have drawn comparisons to Prince, Janet, Sheila E, and Vanity 6, Maya lays down a fresh brand of sexy electronic funk pop with her steamy vocals and thumping bass lines.  Years of hard work has paid off for Maya which includes winning a Norwegian “Grammy” with her previous band MontĂ©e, playing in Savoy with a-Ha’s Paul Waaktaar, opening for Lenny Kravitz, and touring the US, Japan, Russia, Holland, and Germany with her own trio.  After independently releasing more than two albums worth of critically acclaimed material in two short years, Maya Vik currently is sitting on a trove of new jams set for release throughout 2014.
