“...Songs that feel wide-open and ambitious, but also giddy and unpredictable.” —NPR

“...Campfire strumming and robust vocal harmonies ghosted by tuneful howls...” —Rolling Stone
“What sets the project apart is the level of their craft and the feeling of travel and discovery in the lyrics and sound.”—LA Weekly

“Gut-level, emotive songwriting that hits directly and honestly.”—Pitchfork
Lonesome Dreams, the first full-length album from rising LA-based bandLord Huron, is available now on the independent label IAMSOUND Records. Lord Huron is a musical and visual project created by lead singer and Michigan native-turned-Angeleno Ben Schneider. The new record follows the Mighty EP, which Pitchfork called “an invigorating listen” and The Los Angeles Times described as “full of lush acoustic guitars and Midwestern-accented harmonies as warm as a winter fireplace.” The debut continues to garner widespread praise—USA Today explains, “the indie-folk band paints a vivid landscape with upbeat, warm melodies and the dreamy vocals,” The New York Timesdescribes the music as, “pretty, multilayered Americana strumming and harmonizing,” and Esquire furthers they’re “the last true New Band You Need to Hear This Year.” Lord Huron recently made their network television debut on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” and performed on KCRW’s “Morning Becomes Eclectic.” Further tour dates to be announced soon (details below).

Originally a solo project by Schneider under the alter ego Lord Huron, collaborators now include Mark Barry (percussion, vocals), Miguel Briseno (bass, percussion), and Tom Renaud (guitar, vocals). Schneider was born in Michigan and started playing music as a child—most often on summer nights around the campfire on Lake Huron. He went on to study art in college and lived in France and New York before moving to Los Angeles in 2005 to pursue a career in the visual arts. His passion for art and music are often intertwined, and Schneider has composed music for various visual art projects over the years. His work is continually inspired by his outdoor explorations, landscape and water in particular. In 2010, Schneider self-released his first EP, Into the Sun, online, complete with original artwork. The songs gained traction and Schneider set to work recruiting musicians to help him translate the recordings into a live performance.

Lord Huron toured extensively throughout 2011, including stops at SXSW, Outside Lands and Lollapalooza, while continuing to develop their live performances. The music video for the song “Time to Run” premiered on NPR.org as a First Watch:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5_e8RRTT0r8.

Kris Menace Premieres Lone Runner on MTV.com.

Following the success of ‘Hide’ featuring Miss Kittin, Kris Menace releases the second single taken from his album, ‘Features’. ’Lone Runner' a collaboration between Kris and sublime Swedish dance music pioneer, Unai, who together deliver a stunning slice of electronica, drizzled with deep melancholy.

The remix package for ’Lone Runner' includes mixes from Denmark’s #1 DJ and production wizard, Kölsch, Barcelona’s multi - talented Undo, Serbian Deep House duo Acos CoolKAs and French filtered house don, Axel Le Baron.

On the track’s composition, Unai says... "I started working on ‘Lone Runner’ many years ago, originally it was intended to end up on my own album. I wrote the lyrics, then started on the production. I worked on the many different versions; but never felt the music was as good as the lyrics, so the sketch ended up in a drawer.”

“When Kris sent me some early demos for his album I remembered the lyrics for 'Lone Runner' and recorded them for one of the Kris demos. However, what he sent back to me in return was something completely different - and perfect! His production of ‘Lone Runner’ was everything the song had been yearning for all these years. In some way I think this suits the lyrics of ‘Lone Runner’: it's nice to run alone, but it's nicer to run together!"

Heralded as one of Minimal Techno’s finest champions through the 90s, Swedish producer and vocalist Erik Möller, aka Unai, released his Grammy nominated debut album in 2001. Soon after, the minimal suit became too tight for Unai, who gave in to his love of disco, pop and soul on his second album.

Kris’ new album, ‘Features’, includes twelve incredible vocal performances from Julian Hamilton (The Presets), the fabulous Miss Kittin, house music legend Robert Owens, Daft Punk collaborator Romanthony, the amazing German soul singer Xavier Naidoo, Chelonis R Jones (known for his work with Royksopp & Booka Shade) and MTV Award winner Simon Lord (singer for Justice's ‘We Are Your Friends’) to name a few.

On the album, Kris says... "I can promise that no one has ever heard Julian Hamilton from The Presets, Xavier Naidoo or Miss Kittinlike this before. Every track on this album is so unique and the range of artists so diverse”

Kris Menace gate-crashed the scene with ‘Discopolis’. Since then Kris has become one of the most respected producers in electronic music releasing LP projects: ‘Idiosyncrasies’ (2009) and ‘Electric Horizon’ (2012) under his own name, as Black Van (DFA) and working with many artists on production or remix duty. His remix work includes Depeche Mode, LCD Soundsystem, Metronomy, Aeroplane, Underworld, Booka Shade and Lana Del Rey. Kris's projects have been signed to some of the most influential labels in the world, with tracks treasured by the electronic dance community and showcasing his prodigious influence on contemporary electronic music.
"The song, featuring Swedish producer Unai, is a clippy, digital-disco trip into the soggy nocturnal mist, with an understated heaving pulse"

Jay Z’s Life + Times introduced Alek Fin HERE

Alek Fin made two remixes available from tracks of his debut Mull EP, which is available digitally HERE and you can listen to the full EP HERE.

Pigeons and Planes says:
" In 2012, electronic music played a huge role in the mainstream, but it was often in the more experimental leaning sounds where things got interesting. Instead of the in-your-face synths and that notorious drop, Alek Fin chooses to go the route of guys like James Blake and Nicolas Jaar. On his Mull EP, the negative space is one of the most important elements, and leaving that room to breathe allows the songs on this EP to unfold like scenes in a movie. In only four songs, all under six minutes, the EP swells, sinks, floats, and erupts with a finely-tuned consciousness."

Alek Fin is the nom de guerre of an independent, electronic musician from Los Angeles. For inspiration, he states: Captions, Death Rabbit, DJ 501, Jon Hopkins, Radiohead, Bask, Vex Mohan, Annica, etc...

Universally hailed as a thrilling new figure in music for his edgy, lo-fi debut, The Headphone Masterpiece, back in 2002, and again for the release of his follow up full length, Landing on a Hundred this past October, Cody ChesnuTT will be showcasing his lush, smoky voice and dynamically soulful live band across the country next month.

The soul troubadour whose frank, socially conscious ruminations on life continue to challenge popular notions of what modern soul music can look and sound like: a raw storyteller for the people wearing a guitar and a toothpick-chewing smirk; a wide-eyed, intense soul brother in a crazy-fly get-up singing about bedraggled love in the land of Lost Angeles - he’s all of that, but wiser now while still wearing poetic license on his skin like a battle scar. The Atlanta native has always stood his own creative ground ever since he first holed himself up in his bedroom to record The Headphone Masterpiece, armed with his DIY musical arsenal: a drum machine, an array of instruments, a dusty four-track cassette recorder and a giant pair of headphones to block out the world. The result was an unvarnished collection of songs – 36 in total, which alchemized his love of a multitude of styles: classic rock, rhythm and blues, pop, punk and gospel music.

Landing On A Hundred, Cody’s second full-length LP, marks his return to the music game after a period of family-man retreat and reflection that did a world of good for him after his meteoric rise to near fame. The title is a reference to the slang saying, “Keeping It One Hundred,” or telling the whole truth, and for lovers of true blue Southern soul this new album is a must-have — he recorded it with a ten-piece band in Memphis-based Royal Studios, the sonic birthplace of some of the deepest works by soul and blues luminaries like Al Green, Buddy Guy and Ike & Tina Turner. “The original tracks were cut on two-inch tape,” Cody explains. “My hands were tingling because I got to sing on the actual microphone that Al Green recorded with. Nothing has changed. The downhome acoustic treatments are still in place.”
Topics on Landing On A Hundred cover lots of grown-folks business: a man’s road to redemption after years of womanizing and crack addiction, the power and labor of slow-burning marital love that eclipses mere material expressions of affection. Keeping it truthful is ultimately what matters most in Cody’s songs: how it reveals itself in your darkest thoughts, how it can heal old wounds with a handclap and a foot stomp. Truthfulness emanates from Cody’s vocal chords and the strings of his guitar while his , strong, sensitive voice continues to command listeners with its riveting sound, leading them to their own higher ground.

Norway’s HEYERDAHL Release Debut ØEN January 28 via Red Eye Transit

Norway’s HEYERDAHL Release Debut ØEN January 28 via Red Eye Transit

MTVu exclusively premiered their haunting & addictive video for “Mirage” HERE and on Vimeo HERE

“We fell for Heyerdahl on a recent trip to Oslo for The Øya Festival ...Haunting...” Under The Radar

“The Sound of Norway in 2013”  P3 No (Norwegian National Radio)

Norway’s Heyerdahl will release their debut album ØEN on January 28th on Red Eye Transit. In advance of the album, the single “Mirage” is available digitally HERE (and free to share HERE). The band will make their first American visit playing at SXSW.

Thor Brenne from Bodø, Norway directed the stunning “Mirage” video. The nature, the story, the narrator speaking in Sami, the actors he chose match beautifully to his magical hometown and turned this all into a picture perfect, heartwarming setting for the song. You can see it on MTVu HERE, on Vimeo HERE and Youtube HERE.

Searching for inspiration through change, HEYERDAHL left their hometown confines of Oslo to record an album. They rented a lighthouse in Stadt on the west coast of Norway and set up a temporary studio overlooking the vast ocean. Accustomed to life in the city, the winter storm of 2011 hit with hurricane force winds and as the massive waves crashed against the windows of the lighthouse this change had begun to take hold.

Isolated in unfamiliar surroundings and intense weather conditions, they began to reflect on Norway before it’s rise in wealth, and regional folklore regarding the ocean, storms, shipwrecks, widows, ghosts, love and companionship began to seep into the lyrics and sounds. Feeling as explorers themselves, they took their name from the great Norwegian explorer Thor Heyerdahl.

Heyerdahl are:
Kenneth Ishak
Mattis Wirth
Tore Løchstøer Hauge
Magne Mostue

Heyerdahl live dates:
January 25 – Trondheim, Norway @ Trondheim Calling
February 16 – Oslo, Norway @ By:larm
March – Austin, TX, USA @ SXSW (details tbd)

Merry Christmas 2012

Hundreds of Orange County residents walk and drive by a Fountain Valley home known for its elaborate holiday light show every year, but some neighbors in the Greenbrook neighborhood tract are saying the house has gone too far.

Homeowner Jan Stewart first enlisted the help of friend Damion Rodriguez to install a Christmas light show using 54,020 LEDs last year in memory of her husband Larry, who loved watching similar shows on YouTube.

This year, the show uses nearly 2,000 feet of Ethernet cable and has added 10,000 more LEDs, multiple lasers, 16 lighted arches nearly 6 feet tall and a fog machine.

“Railbird’s guitar parts sound like a chilled-out Battles
while Pedinotti’s vocals recall Bjork’s charming acrobatics...”
"...skittering Deerhoof guitar smash-ups, rap-clatter percussion, and Sarah Pedinotti's chopped vocals made for a triumphantly jittery cut."

"A statement of autonomy from a group unrestrained by any force other than themselves."

"'MIRRORs' brings together fierce talent, creative thought, and a smattering of unconventional production."

"You'd be hard-pressed to predict the ending of a RAILBIRD song, but
attempting that guess-work makes the experimental Brooklyn band's
music more mysterious and suspenseful."
Brooklyn-based experimental psych-rock band RAILBIRD are excited to premiere a new School of Seven Bells remix of their recent single "MIRRORs" today on Consequence of Sound. To RAILBIRD, the remix is "A journey in three movements. Ben [of SVIIB] established his own dreamy world within the song, then dropped it while simultaneously playing with mood and meaning throughout. It's a brilliant six minute voyage based off of a three minute jaunt." Consequence agrees, stating the Ben's methodically slowed down version of the original jittery cut creates a "dreamy pool of contemplative reverberation and airy synth." Check out the premiere of "MIRRORs" (the original cut) on MTV Hive.
RAILBIRD released their newest Lucky EP in late November, a tour de force that includes two new previously unreleased songs, as well as "Jump Ship," a track that made waves this summer after a residency at Pete's Candy Store. The video for the song, which features guest vocals from Anti recording artist Sean Rowe and Phantogram's Sarah Barthel, premiered on Brooklyn Vegan in late August. Watch it here, or download "Jump Ship" here. A limited edition run of physical copies of Lucky will be available at shows and online (here) as part of a bundle that includes a t-shirt with Jisoon Park's original design.

RAILBIRD is a cast of stunningly talented multi-instrumentalists fronted by Sarah K. Pedinotti. SKP's vocal delivery has earned her apt comparisons to musical luminaries Bjork and Kate Bush, and the band's unique blend of experimental psych-pop has found a home with fans of Braids, The Dirty Projectors, and Massive Attack.

After self-releasing their debut album No One in March 2011, RAILBIRD was invited to perform at SXSW, CMJ, and the 4th Annual Roots Picnic alongside Ariel Pink, Little Dragon, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes, and more. RAILBIRD recently performed at POP Montreal and CMJ 2012 and have just wrapped up a small east coast tour. They will head into the studio again in January.

'How To Say Goodbye' LP Available February 26, 2013
Photo Ops is the dream-pop project from Terry Price, is pleased to release the video for "It Makes Me Cry," the first single from his upcoming LP How To Say Goodbye. The track is one of the many gems on the album, layering Price's charming vocals over smooth instrumentation coupled with his knack for writing an infectious hook. The video was directed by Jordan Noel and shows Price going through the motions of a daily grind and lost in a daze. Price says of the video: "filmed in one day at my house and around my neighborhood in Nashville - The video is a visual collage representing the feelings of isolation and longing for love that I tried to convey in the song."

Photo Ops is the stunning, contemplative dream pop project of Terry Price, whose new album,  How To Say Goodbye, draws on the tragedy and triumph of his recent past. The 30-year-old Nashville singer-songwriter, formerly of esteemed indie act Oblio, has had a traumatizing few years, including the death of his father and the sudden onset of a disfiguring medical condition.

"I wanted to have a stylized, melodic, easy-to-understand album about sadness and pain and strangeness, and somehow find some catharsis," he says. Indeed the concise and beautiful work -- which draws on influences from Phil Spector, Paul Simon, Neil Young and Fleetwood Mac to dream pop acts of The Radio Dept. and Starflyer 59-- is his attempt to move forward in his life and give comfort to others.

Price played nearly all of the instruments on the record, including acoustic and electric guitar, the Roland Juno-60 analog synthesizer, organ, piano, and bass. He co-produced it with Patrick Damphier of Saddle Creek act The Mynabirds, at the latter's studio. Featuring driving, mesmerizing melodies - immediately appealing but substantial - the album is led off by "All the World Is," which unveils the full-length's autobiographical undertones: "It's hard to recover from a bad year/ Friends that were with us, are no longer near." Later, on "Someplace" he sings: "All this memory has gone out the window/ Like how to be a person in general/ Age is more than a number/ When you're as old as you feel."

The goal was to "sonically fuse" three albums, Paul Simon's eponymous 1972 album, Dion's Born to Be With You (produced by Phil Spector) and The Radio Dept.'s Clinging to a Scheme. "I wanted to combine chillwave with a more straightforward, honest approach," he says. "The album title How To Say Goodbye may seem clichéd," he goes on, "but I didn't want there to be a question of what I was singing about: How to say goodbye to youth, friendships, innocence, thinking you understand the world, all that in general."

How To Say Goodbye Tracklist:

01. All The World Is
02. It Makes Me Cry
03. Chameleons
04. Wanna Feel Good
05. Someplace
06. You Said You Were

"[One of the] undiscovered bands you need to hear now!" - SPIN

San Francisco indie-rock trio Geographer will kick off the New Year with a 3-week headlining tour beginning January 12 in Portland, OR. With direct support from ON AN ON, the dates will take the band throughout the West Coast and Midwest, with stops in Denver, Austin, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles and more. This tour follows two very successful nationwide tours earlier this year that saw Geographer performing to sold out venues across the country.

Geographer continues to tour in support of their widely-praised new album MYTH, released earlier this year on Modern Art Records. The San Francisco Chronicle proclaims "pop music hasn't seen such a seamless marriage between techno beats and swooning cello parts since...well, this might just be a first," and Paste declares "their music seems equally comfortable in such disparate venus as wild dance clubs and quiet coffee shops."

Geographer recently recorded a cover of Kate Bush's "Cloudbusting."
Feel free to download & embed the track here: http://bit.ly/SMVRyS

Geographer teamed up with producer Eli Crews (tUnE-yArDs, Beulah, Why?, Deerhoof) and renowned mixer Chris Zane (Passion Pit, The Walkmen, Holy Ghost!, Tokyo Police Club) to scrupulously craft MYTH. The 10-song set features Mike Deni's distinct melodic vocals flirt with his dazed synth melodies and alluring guitar riffs; while Nathan Blaz's haunting electric cello cords, and Brian Ostreicher's vibrant drums blend together to help create the mind-altering, ten track album that is pulsating with complex poly-rhythms and stunning harmonies.
