Los Angeles, CA - September 28, 2012 - Brooklyn-based band Friends will hit the road this fall with Two Door Cinema Club kicking off tonight at the famed Central Park Summerstage in New York City and winding down in Santa Ana, CA at The Observatory on Sunday, October 28th.

Friends - Samantha Urbani (Vox), Nikki Shapiro (Guitar/Keys), Oliver Duncan (Percussion), and V (Bass) - are touring in support of their heralded, self-produced debut album, Manifest!, released by Fat Possum Records on June 5th.The album is a collection of fun/funky/danceable pop hits, with powerful lyrical themes touching on polyamory, anarchism, empowerment of the individual, being wary of the government and media, existential awe, etc. Manifest! was hailed by The New York Times as"one of the year's most breathless debuts." Publications from Dazed and Confused to The London Times all agree that if there "is to be one more band from Brooklyn then it should be Friends."

Friends are known for their highly spirited live shows, where attendees can expect to be danced with, kissed, and tattooed. Having toured non-stop for the past year, the band most recently brought their "untouchable, cool and indelible, hook-laden pop music," (Q Magazine) to festival audiences across Europe including two SOLD OUT shows in London.

See them for yourself and quickly learn why NME called them "One of 100 New Bands You Have To Hear."

Sylver Tongue (Charlotte Hatherley of Ash / Bat For Lashes)

Sylver Tongue (Charlotte Hatherley of Ash / Bat For Lashes) Releases New EP!!

Something Big Out on Dancing Coins November 6

'Something Big' Tracklist Here

1. Something Big
2. Hook You Up
3. Creatures
4. Faraway Sun

Press Quotes

“Lusciously wounded vocals headline this purple-toned track, allowing it to possess a naked, sweeping force not unlike the great power ballads of decades past” RCRD LBL
"Backed by a band, offering up space-age synths and subtle glam stomps with the polish of a project far past its current infancy, Hatherley makes for a commanding lynchpin, stalking the stage with a thrillingly standoffish strut. From the meaty throb of 'Creatures' to the subtler, sultrier shimmers of 'Hook You Up' the set spills over with cold, futuristic washes of noise and stealthy fretwork." NME
“Formerly of Ash and her own sparkling guitar-pop efforts, Hatherley picks up the synths for her new project, which is equally inspired by early new wave and sci-fi heroines. (Its name is a hybridized homage to the Philip Pullman heroine Lyra Silvertongue and Japan frontman David Sylvian.) Her whoops and hiccups on this all-momentum track reveal that her superpower might very well be her ability to mimic her instruments with her voice.” Village Voice

Watch The Video For "Creatures" Here!

Sylver Tongue is pleased to announce the release of her debut EP Something Big on Dancing Coins – the new label from a collective that includes Mute artist Al Spx of Cold Specks - on November 6th.

Sylver Tongue is the new project from Charlotte Hatherley – in this guise she uses battered old Juno keyboards to write the wounded pop songs that define a new chapter in her career. The name of the project is equally inspired by Phillip Pullman's heroine Lyra Silvertongue and Japan frontman David Sylvian.
The title track from the EP is a powerful juggernaut of a single which showcases Charlotte's compelling and melodic vocals alongside riotous percussion and robotic guitar solos.
‘Something Big’ sits nicely alongside early teaser ‘Hook You Up’ - a perfect slice of pop - which is deservedly given it's first physical release on the EP. ‘Faraway Sun’ is another brand new track on the EP and demonstrates a darker, cinematic side to Sylver Tongue’s sound. Sedate, but no less arresting. The EP will be released digitally and on 12” vinyl and will also feature blog hyped debut single ‘Creatures’ - not previously available as physical.

The Dig Start Their 24-Date Tour Through America

The Dig Start Their 24-Date Tour Through America on October 3rd in Washington, DC
(full tour date info below)

Video “I Already Forgot Everything You Said” HERE

New York indie rock band The Dig are giving their fans a gift, as stated on their site: "Email your ticket receipt for any show on the fall tour to thedig@redlightmanagement.com to redeem a free download of The Dig’s new album, Midnight Flowers."

Earlier the band shared the music video for their acclaimed single “I Already Forgot Everything You Said”, which has been described as a “dreamy track, filled with butterfly-inducing harmonies,” the band chose a run-down but still majestic 19th century building at 5 Beekman Street in Manhattan’s Financial District. In fact, “We were the last people to shoot in this amazing old space before it was gutted,” says singer and bassist Emile Mosseri. The crumbling surroundings still hint at former glories, as befits a song about past loves. Mosseri continues, “The space has kind of a haunting quality to it and we felt like the mood of the song fit the vibe of the building… We all wrote this song together as a band and feel it captures the tone of our new record.” Watch the video for “I Already Forgot Everything You Said” on PureVolume HERE and HERE (please feel free to share).

The Dig released their new album Midnight Flowers on May 29th via Buffalo Jump Records.  Last July they moved to Los Angeles by popular demand for a residency at Silverlake Lounge after playing their successful shows with Ben Kweller in May.  The band is proud to lend their single to Turn the Tide: Songs for "Last Call at the Oasis" a companion charity album to the new film Last Call at the Oasis in support of the global water crisis alongside 20 unreleased exclusive tracks from artists including Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds, Alabama Shakes, My Morning Jacket and more.

The Dig's sound has been developing ever since the band's two singers Emile Mosseri and David Baldwin started making music together when they were eleven years old.  After meeting California native Erick Eiser, the three songwriters have been writing tunes and playing in different bands since they were 16 years old. Anchored by sharp guitars, a woozy synth backdrop and airtight vocal harmonies, the new album Midnight Flowers which is produced by Bryce Goggin (Pavement, The Apples In Stereo, Swans, Antony & The Johnsons) via Buffalo Jump Records. It recalls styles ranging from T. Rex to Brian Eno to The Everly Brothers.

The "Fireflies" MP3, which is now available for download, premiered earlier this morning. Gorilla Vs. Bear calls the track a "Sweeping, romantic new single… which gives off some starry-eyed, cinematic ’80s prom slow-dance vibes" (see Gorilla Vs. Bear premiere Sep. 27).

In further exciting news, Still Corners are hard at work on their follow up to their acclaimed Creatures of An Hour,  due out spring 2013 via Sub Pop.
More on Still Corners:
"Many bands lay claim to the adjective “cinematic.” But how many can claim a truly cinema-worthy moment as part of their inception? It was a dark and foggy night when Still Corners songwriter Greg Hughes first laid eyes on vocalist Tessa Murray. “It sounds stupid but it’s completely true,” he recounts. “I was on a train that was going to London Bridge. But for some reason it went to this other stop. And I got out, and this other person got out. It was Tessa (read more at Sub Pop)."

What people have said about Still Corners "Fireflies":

I.M.M.O.R.T.A.L.I.F.E. channeled by Prince Rama. Photo credit Samantha Casolari.
In the early eighties, a London sex cult infiltrated underground discotheques based on the principle that the secret to immortality was found through engaging in intimate acts of love. To retain their anonymity, members went by the acronym I.M.M.OR.T.A.L.I.F.E., or 'Inner Messages Morphing Over Resonant Time, Always Loving Infinitely Free and Everlasting'. For years, I.M.M.O.R.T.A.L.I.F.E. dedicated itself to recording dance track hymnals that would provoke lovemaking acts and thus prolong the lives of its members. When the end of the world came, the group was found frozen in midst of an orgiastic collapse. They had not slept or eaten in thirteen days.

This is the reunited Guided By Voices' third album of 2012, in case you had lost count. Many bands struggle to release three albums in their career, never mind three in one year. It would be one thing if these were tossed off lo-fi affairs of the sort one might expect from the fellows who made the defining records of that so-called genre, Bee Thousand (1994) and Alien Lanes (1995). While the debut from the reunited "classic" line-up, Let's Go Eat The Factory, contained it's share of basement gems, both that record and its follow-up Class Clown Spots A UFO are notable more for the preponderance of properly recorded rock, a testament to the years bandleader Robert Pollard has spent refining both his songwriting and his approach to recording.

The Bears For Lunch is not a great deal different in that regard, but right off, from the opening track "King Arthur the Red," with its full-throated riffery, slam-tastic drums, and even some show-offy lead guitar shredding, it's evident that GBV Mach 2 may just now be hitting its stride. The progression is not dissimilar to the one the band made from Alien Lanes to its 1996 high-water mark Under The Bushes, Under The Stars, both in terms of longer, more fleshed-out songs and let's call it a semi-pro approach to recording fidelity. For all the well-deserved acclaim the first two records this year have garnered, Bears is a step up in every sense. This isn't to say there's a whole lotta gloss going on, and certainly the album has its share of more casually considered songs, but from the relentless drum figure that fuels sure-fire-live-staple and obvious single "Hangover Child" ("the best thing Kevin 's ever played" sez Pollard) to the chugging, melancholic, melody-mad "White Flag" ("I think you know this time it's real," sings Bob over an almost New Order-ish bass line) to the propulsive, early-R.E.M.-inflected album closer "Everywhere Is Miles From Everywhere," the 19-song 43-ish minute long Bears delivers a gut-punch as sure and assured anything the band's ever dished out. And that's without mentioning the stellar contributions of Tobin Sprout ("The Corners Are Glowing" and "Waving At Airplanes" are particular standouts), bouts of unrestrained whimsy like "The Military School Dance Dismissal," featuring what sounds like seven tracks of Pollard singing in unison/harmony over a Beatle-esque piano line, or the staggering work of heart-breaking genius "You Can Fly Anything Right."

Add to this Pollard's two excellent 2012 solo albums, a raft of festival appearances and some club touring, and you have possibly the most consistently productive output in one year ever from a band and a songwriter already noted for its/his insanely prolific nature. That said, in a year of highlights, The Bears For Lunch may well take the most cake.

On Monday, October 1st at 7:30pm Freelance Whales will perform live from the Knitting Factory in Brooklyn, New York, only a few blocks from the Bedford L train stop that played host to their early intimate platform performances. The band will be playing  Diluvia, their eagerly-anticipated follow-up to Weathervanes, in its entirety. The event is non-ticketed, and exclusive to fans and friends of the band. Details on how fans can catch the show in person will be unveiled on the band's Facebook page the morning of Monday, October 1st. But rest assured, anyone who doesn't score tickets can still watch the performance in its entirety on Livestream. Tune in on Monday, October 1st at 7:30pm for the performance.

After two years and over a dozen tours, Freelance Whales were feeling road-worn and eager to rediscover their creative process. They had been building on the grassroots appeal of their earthy debut, Weathervanes, for tens of thousands of miles. To tare the scale, the band embarked on a many faceted journey during which they found themselves isolated in West Kill, sprawled with their instruments in Hoboken, and packed into studios in Brooklyn and Manhattan. What resulted from nearly a year’s worth of creative productivity is the group’s second full-length, Codec Diluvia (out October 9th on Mom+Pop/French Kiss).

Whereas Weathervanes was delivered from the perspective of a child infatuated with ayoung female ghost, Diluvia is a record about the possible survival – or peril – of space- faring humans and other arguably fantastical scenarios. Curiosity over these unknowns has evolved into notions of space exploration, ancient astronauts, dreams, and natural and artificial selection, with new songs building to expansive, atmospheric destinations. Working to evoke both prehistoric and pseudo-futuristic sensations, the record invites listeners to indulge in more elastic thought, perhaps, than it's predecessor.
Diluvia, which was recorded over two months in New York City with producer Shane Stoneback, also finds Freelance Whales – Judah Dadone (vocals, guitar, banjo, synthesizers), Doris Cellar (bass, vocals), Chuck Criss (guitar, synthesizers, vocals), Jacob Hyman (drums, vocals), and Kevin Read (guitar, vocals) – exploring new instrumental experiences by blurring their trademark “organic” instruments with liberaluse of electronics and more aggressive rhythm. They may sound bigger, but Freelance Whales are no less committed to capturing intimacy though their music. Diluvia is an experiment in finding the confluence between science and emotion. Their hypothesis is that such a cathartic place exists, for both themselves and their fans, and it can be found somewhere in their new music.
Recent Press Quotes
Consequence of Sound: "In the vein of lead single “Locked Out”, the second single, “Spitting Image”, is another demonstration of the band’s newly expanded sound, a grand, electronica-leaning cut of pure ecstasy."
Filter Magazine : "While the band’s trademark sound only previously flirted with electronics, the LP’s lead single, “Locked Out”, turns that relationship in full-fledged marriage".
Pretty Much Amazing : "First single “Locked Out,” Freelance Whales show that they’ve perked their ears up to their surroundings and are heading in an interesting direction."
Stereogum : “Locked Out" is exactly the sort of layered, romantic stuff that the band built its name on"
