Aug 31th, 2012- Noisey has premiered the official video for Ringo Deathstarr’s new single “Rip” today. “Rip” is the first offering from the Austin, Texas trio’s forthcoming album Mauve (to be released in North America by Sonic Unyon on Sept 25th). The song is equally distorted and dreamy with bassist Alex Gehring handling vocals. The visuals for the song reflect this with Gehring, Elliott Frazier (guitar/vocals) and Daniel Coborn (drums) taking a Technicolor trip (replete with trails) with the help of some 3-D glasses from their cereal box.

Watch the new video for “Rip” in the video above or here:

Speaking on the creation of the song, Frazier recounts “Rip’ was the sixteenth and last song we recorded (for Mauve). Alex gave me a demo of herself singing the melody on an unplugged electric guitar. Without the drums, it could have been a Beat Happening song, but I was inspired and played drums on the track. It was created pretty organically and there was never any forethought that it would be the first single.”

Self-produced in Austin and Los Angeles, Mauve follows Ringo Deathstarr’s highly received 2011 LP, Colour Trip. Colour Trip, known for a massively blown out but melodic sound, helped the band to be named a highlight of SXSW 2011 by CNN, Brooklyn Vegan, NPR and Wired. The latter summed up their sound as “the band sounds like it leaped screaming out of My Bloody Valentine's blown amps.”

Rather than trying to raise the dizzying wall of guitar sound on its predecessor, Mauve raises the melodies and dials back the sonic assault while retaining the band’s signature decibel power. Frazier says of this approach “Colour Trip was a great studio album but on Mauve we just wanted to write songs that we would have a blast playing live and could recreate easily on stage.”

The band will be embarking on a five week North American tour this September and October. (Confirmed tour dates below). Album pre-order links is also below including full-length in LP, CD and digital editions via Sonic Unyon for North America and Rip 7” on Electric Blue Vinyl via UK label AC30.

Liturgy Releases Shellac Cover & Performs at Thrill Jockey 20th Anniversary Shows

LITURGY Photo Credit: Jason Nocito
Liturgy are a band renown not only for pushing boundaries but for creating new ones altogether. They recently stopped by The A.V. Club headquarters in Chicago to cover Shellac's "Prayer To God" for the Undercover series and the results were stunning and somewhat unexpected. The AV Club writes, "We assumed that would mean the loudest Undercover yet, but Hunter Hunt-Hendrix informed us upon arrival that he wanted to perform Shellac's unstoppable "Prayer To God" a cappella. As you'll see, he builds the song up from scratch with vocal loops, creating something absolutely hypnotic."
Earlier this summer, Liturgy was in Chicago as part of the Pitchfork Music Festival, where they played an electrifying set. You can check out that performance as well as a  behind the scenes look at the band  here.
Hunter Hunt-Hendrix recently sat down with Pitchfork to discuss some of the most influential records of his life in Pitchfork TV's 5-10-15-20 series. Watch Hunter discuss Nirvana, Nine Inch Nails, At the Drive-In, Stravinsky, Death Grips and "getting pretty dark at age 10."
Liturgy will take part in Thrill Jockey's historic 20th Anniversary series performing at several concerts across the US to celebrate the label's birthday. They will share the stage with labelmates like Tortoise, Future Islands, Trans Am, Wooden Shjips and many more, you can check out the full schedule below.
Liturgy is a transcendental black metal band from Brooklyn, New York. In 2011, the band released their sophomore album, Aesthethica, on Thrill Jockey. Disregarding the traditional genre boundaries of black metal, hardcore and experimental music, the result is a sound that is both elaborately crafted and chaotically performed. Aesthetica was lauded by critics for it’s genre-defying originality, receiving attention from publications including The New York Times, Spin, NPR, Pitchfork and The New Yorker. Liturgy’s unconventional attitude towards the genre both musically and visually, along with the publication of the “Transcendental Black Metal” manifesto by frontman Hunter Hunt-Hendrix, has sparked great controversy both inside and outside the metal community.

Quotes /

"Aesthethica is a formidable, explosive, challenging record and one of the year's most bracing" The New York Times
"This is music that creates a new history" NPR
"These songs are steel-tipped pointillist portraits of vitality itself" Spin
"Aesthethica is inventive, alive, and shrieking with more ideas than many bands explore over an entire career" Pitchfork

Today, RollingStone.com premiered Screaming Females latest music video, "Leave It All To Me", the sequel to their previous video "It All Means Nothing". The video finds goths mourning guitar virtuoso Marissa Paternoster's untimely death and resurrect her using black magick, thus finding the rest of Screaming Females screaming for their lives.

The band (especially Paternoster who cities Garbage as her first favorite band) is elated to announce that they will be opening for Garbage throughout North America this fall. Against Me!'s Laura Jane Grace gave Shirley Manson a copy of Screaming Females record, and after a failed attempt at a side project with Paternoster & Manson, both bands couldn't be more thrilled to be hitting the road. In Paternoster words: "I wish I could call up thirteen year old Marissa on the phone and tell her that she's gonna play shows with Garbage. She'd freak out." Catch them this fall!

For more info visit  www.leguesswho.nl/couchsurfing
Last November the festival celebrated its 5-year anniversary with performances by Panda Bear, Bill Callahan, Low, and John Maus, and introduced the free mini-festival 'Le Mini Who?' which proved to be a successful supplement.
