The Rapture

In The Grace of Your Love

September 6, 2011 via DFA Records

The Rapture have announced the release details for their long awaited third album In The Grace Of Your Love on September 6th through DFA Records.

The release of In The Grace Of Your Love marks the dawn of a new chapter in the bands history and a welcome return to DFA Records, having re-signed with the label that released some of their most acclaimed early singles, and whose founders James Murphy & Tim Goldsworthy produced their debut album Echoes. This an exciting release for the DFA familiy who will also be celebrating that same month the iconic label's 10th Anniversary.

Together with French producer Philippe Zdar (Phoenix, Beastie Boys, Chromeo) they have crafted and shaped a bold & euphoric album that sounds definitively & distinctly like The Rapture and no one else. Through the course of its eleven tracks, you can immerse yourself as waves of lyrical optimism & introspection crash between angular guitars & pulsing synthesizers, pounding drums & into sweet rhythmical lullabies. This is the sound of The Rapture re-engaged and revitalized with a voice as clear as they ever had.

The full tracklisting is as follows:

In The Grace Of Your Love
1) Sail Away
2) Miss You
3) Blue Bird
4) Come Back to Me
5) In the Grace of Your Love
6) Never Gonna Die Again
7) Roller Coaster
8) Children
9) Can You Find a Way?
10) How Deep Is Your Love?
11) It Takes Time to Be a Man

In The Grace Of Your Love was recorded at Motorbass, Paris and Gary's Electric in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

The Rapture are Gabriel Andruzzi, Luke Jenner & Vito Roccoforte

Stay tuned for US tour dates!

Gavin Friday "catholic"

Extraordinary music legend Gavin Friday releases new album "catholic" today (digital) with physical release date slated for August. (MB3/EMI)
4 star Reviews from Uncut, Q, Mojo and more!
"torchy, mirror-ball beauty. These are his silkiest arrangements, but shadowy undercurrents ensure the tension never lets up."
- MOJO 4 stars
"Friday shamelessly rekindles the Eno/Lanois unforgettable shimmer, croons against the dying of the light, and somehow emerges defiantly alive."
- Uncut 4 stars
"Echoes of Yeats writing about the violent heart... the music policy is sui generis, nocturnal-futurist with Friday's yearning half falsetto melodies drifting past moonscapes lit by neo ambient and late night club pulses " - Hot Press
" In short, it's a captivating listen from a distinguished performer. Welcome back, Gavin.
Q Magazine 4 stars
"16 years off the circuit don’t seem to have withered his pen" - The Post (Ireland)
"Able, the album's opening salvo, is an elated blast of stadium-bating synth-rock that is more uplifting than elegiac. Writhing in the song's spiralling keyboard sounds and gently chiming guitars, Friday purrs in his inimitable style about love, loss and letting go. Buoyed by a pulsating bass line and Friday's gruff half-spoken vocals, the song simmers and boils into a rousing frenzy of poeticism and rock panache, like U2 imbibing the introspective talents of Leonard Cohen."
Q Magazine Track of the Day
“Able” is an unexpected masterpiece that gives us a glimpse of what is to come from Friday’s new album.” – Pop In Stereo

16 years since his last album, it’s time to salute anti-hero Gavin Friday, who returns to form with his new album “catholic” set for digital release in North America on May 17th with CD to come in late August on MB3 Records/ EMI Music.
In recent years, Gavin Friday’s career has been dominated by cinema, soundtrack and theatre. So its no surprise that their collective, lush shadow looms over catholic. Friday takes conventional song structures and scores them, adding Bowie-synths, sci-fi swirls, epic strings and Germanic rhythms. Friday still puts the same energy and passion into his work that he did as a founding member of seminal post-punk band, Virgin Prunes.
Fittingly enough, “catholic” comes to us at a time of upheaval, of political chaos, and of spiritual, financial and moral bankruptcy. Our world is a very different place since Friday’s last album, Shag Tobacco, was released. The intervening decade and a half coincided with a prolific work period for the singer. From award winning soundtracks - William Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet, In America, The Boxer, Get Rich Die Tryin' (with Quincy Jones) and three songs to In The Name Of The Father which featured two collaborations with U2’s Bono ("In The Name Of The Father", "Billy Boola") and a Golden Globe nomination for “You Made Me The Thief of Your Heart” as sung by Sinead O’Connor - to collaborating on Nothing like the Sun with Gavin Bryars and the Royal Shakespeare Company. Then there was his acting debut (in Neil Jordan’s Breakfast on Pluto ), Scott Walker collaborations and a Kurt Weill show at Dublin Theatre Festival. In personal terms, he endured illness, the end of his marriage and his father’s death. To some, the personal is political; but Gavin Friday is clear that this is “an emotional, not a political, album”. The singer likens catholic to “waking from a deep sleep, of letting go and coming to terms with loss”. And somewhere in the middle of all that, there are slivers of love, contentment and romance.
Sometimes when you’re building songs, they tell you ‘look after me’ or ‘fuck off, and leave me alone’”

Also I Like to Rock 2011 Line Up

Thursday, July 7, 7PM
Graffiti6 + Eastern Conference Champions
KCRW DJ: Dan Wilcox

British rockers Graffiti6 were formed in 2008 around the talents of singer-songwriter Jamie Scott and DJ, writer, and producer Tommy D., who has worked with the likes of Jay-Z and Kanye West. Together they craft a heady, upbeat blend of soulful electropop that falls somewhere in between the Beta Band, Morcheeba, and Gnarls Barkley. The duo’s “psychedelic Northern Soul” is a feast for the ears.

Eastern Conference Champions
The triangulation of Bucks County, Pa.-reared Joshua Ostrander and Greg Lyons along with L.A. guitarist Melissa Dougherty, Eastern Conference Champions fashion indie-rock that can go from ferocious to tender in a heartbeat. The trio gained attention last year when its song “A Million Miles an Hour” was featured in The Twilight Saga: Eclipse soundtrack and kept the momentum going with the April release of their new album Speak-Ahh.

Thursday, July 14, 7PM
The Soft Pack + Hanni El Khatib
KCRW DJ: Chuck P

Launched in 2008 in San Diego by guitar-playing friends Matty McLoughlin and Matt Lamkin, the Soft Pack rocketed to success in 2009 with a punk-meets-garage rock sound inspired by the Modern Lovers, the Fall, the Velvet Underground and the Ramones. With bassist Dave Lantzman and drummer Brian Hill, the foursome released its self-titled debut in 2010 on Kemado Records and has toured the world, including dates at the Coachella and Lollapalooza festivals.

A multi-instrumentalist who serves as singer, songwriter, and producer for his one-man band, Hanni El Khatib wields a sinewy guitar and a wry, whiskey-glazed voice to fashion a mix of bluesy garage-rock soul and malt-shop music for those who drink them spiked with bourbon.

Thursday, July 21, 7PM
Grouplove + Milo Greene
KCRW DJ: Eric J. Lawrence

Los Angeles-based quintet Grouplove came together on the island of Crete, where two friends from New York, Hannah Hooper and Christian Zucconi, met future bandmates Sean Gadd, Ryan Rabin and Andrew Wessen at an art residency. Finding immediate chemistry, the fivesome moved to L.A. to refine and record an EP of ambitious pop marked by sweeping anthems and soaring harmonies. A full album is due this year.

New L.A. pop quintet Milo Greene came together when former UC Irvine classmates Robbie Arnett, Andrew Heringer and Marlana Sheetz reunited for songwriting sessions and, finding common ground in the harmony-laden pop of the 1960s and 1970s, emerged with a batch of undeniably engaging material. They have since expanded their circle by adding Curtis Marrero and Graham Fink and are currently recording songs for their debut release.

Thursday, July 28, 7PM
The Henry Clay People + Lady Danville
KCRW DJ: Chris Douridas

The Pavement- and Tom Petty-influenced rock of L.A.’s the Henry Clay People is informed by the sibling revelry of Joey and Andy Siara, who trade jibes, jabs and guitar licks in the quintet’s hyperactive, angsty tunes. Their third album “Somewhere on the Golden Coast” came out in 2010 on TBD Records and the band followed it up this spring with a punk rock-influenced EP, “This Is a Desert.”

Indie-pop standouts Lady Danville were born when Michael Garner and Dan Chang — natives of Danville, CA — met Matt Frankel at a tryout for UCLA’s Awaken a capella group. Not content simply to harmonize, the threesome took up instruments and embarked on a songwriting campaign that earned them acclaim with tune “Tired Magician” and eventually gigs opening for Ben Folds, Dashboard Confessional and Jack’s Mannequin.

Alessi's Ark: US Tour

2 New Digital Singles Available Now + US Tour Dates Announced
British folk-popstress Alessi's Ark has just released the second in a series of digital singles on Bella Union records. The first released was the incessantly sweet song, "Wire," about young love and connecting to someone. "The song's edges are blurred enough to make it feel like reverie. 'Wire' is steeped with age. It's alluring in its openness and honest fragility," says a music blogger.

The latest single is a cover of 60s teen pop icon Lesley Gore's "Maybe I Know." Made famous by her still nearly ubiquitous hit "It's My Party," which she recorded at the age of 16, and others like the early feminist anthem "You Don't Own Me." Alessi feels a special kinship with Gore as a result of herself also being thrust into the spotlight in her teen years; she signed on the dotted line with Virgin Records UK when she was just 17.

"Last summer, I heard 'Maybe I Know' for the first time after my good friend Jake (Bellows) dreamt I performed it at a school party. He sent a YouTube link to Lesley Gore performing the song and it got stuck in my heart and brain immediately," says Alessi.

Click the player below to check out her version of Gore's song via her new music video.
