BRMC gives away bass guitar at show

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

A pick or a setlist or autograph is not enough these days. Robert Been of BRMC gave away a bass guitar at two shows on the west coast swing of this recent tour. The happy recipient was superfan Jodi Jay Haddon. Been actually gave her a bass at the LA show at The Wiltern at the end of the final song. A crazy fight broke out in the front rows and the bass was given to someone who wasn't even a BRMC fan. She was there for the Fratellis. At the San Francisco gig at the Fillmore, Robert Been repeated the great gesture, only this time, with the help of a bouncer, was able to hand it off to Haddon. This picture above was taken after the show, where Been signed the bass, and gave Haddon a guitar case to carry it in.

The sold out shows in LA and SF were the biggest shows BRMC have played in America. The Wiltern has a capacity of 2,500, and many hundreds were waiting outside to get in. Not to be upstaged, Peter Hayes of BRMC came out of The Fillmore after the show and played a few songs on the street to fans who couldn't get in:

Music is My Boyfriend #5 playlist @ Bar 107

Last night was another brilliant night. It was totally packed all night. There was a lot of people in downtown la all night. Many of my friends didn't show up. Only about ten people of the inner circle were there. Greg, who I went to high school with, was there. He is friends with the owner of Bar 107. This was the first night with me and Candice DJ - ing together. It was really fun. People started getting into it when I played "Mr Big Stuff" and Annie. And again when DJ Queen of Clubs played ACDC. There was serious dancefloor action. At 145am there was still 35+ drunk people who wouldn't leave. Anyway, here is the fifth edition of MIMBF:

The songs:

Roxy Music "Virginia Plain/Do The Strand" soundcheck
ELO "Turn To Stone"
Gary Numan "Airlane"
LCD Soundsystem "North American Scum"
David Bowie "Cracked Actor"
Klaxons "Golden Skans"
Atari Teenage Riot "Atari Teenage Riot"
Donovan "Hurdy Gurdy Man"
BRMC "Weapon of Choice"
Jean Knight Mr. Big Stuff"

Annie "Crush" (and the lefthanded)
The Rapture "Get Myself Into It"
Arctic Monkeys "Brainstorm"
The Make Up "White Belts"
Blonde Redhead "En Particulier"
Echo and The Bunnymen"
BRMC "Lien On Your Dreams"
Gorillaz "Clint Eastwood"
Radiodead "Airbag"
The Specials "Rat Race"

Kaiser Chiefs "I Predict A Riot"
The Stooges "1970"
The Fall "Totally Wired"
Arcade Fire "Keep The Car Running"
The Raconteurs "Store Bought Bones"
Wolfmother "Women"
Primal Scream "Gimme Some Truth"
Clinic "If You Could Read Your Mind"
The Dream Syndicate "Cinnamon Girl"
Interpol "Obstacle 1"

Then DJ Queen of Clubs came on and whipped the people into a frenzy. She played a mix of dirty disco and new wave and heavy rock. The senses were overloaded. She played some of my records including:

Autolux "Turnstile Blues"
TV On The Radio "Wolf Like Me"
The Strokes "Last Nite"

Then I came on again at 1245am:

The Good, The Bad and The Queen "Kingdom of Doom"
Maximo Park "Apply Some Pressure"
Rubric
The Dandy Warhols "Bohemian Like You"
CSS "Alala"
The Knife "Like A Pen"
Hot Chip "The Warning"
New Order "Love Vigilantes"
Brian Jonestown Massacre "Going To Hell"
The Black Angels "The First Vietnamese War"

BRMC "Berlin"
Patti Smith "Babelogue/Rock and Roll Nigger"
20/20 "Yellow Pills"
The Raveonettes "Love In A Trashcan"
Jesus and Mary Chain "Just Like Honey"
The Young Knives "She's Attracted To"
Kasabian "Empire"
The Horrors "Count In Fives"
Hazel O'Conner "Blackman"
The Long Blondes "Giddy Stratospheres"

The Walkmen "The Rat"
Babyshambles "Janie Jones"
Arctic Monkeys "Fluorescent Adolescent"

That is it. See you next month...
