Linda Ramone and Cinespia present the annual tribute to punk rock legend Johnny Ramone, July 30at Hollywood Forever. A very fun event celebrating some cool things Johnny loved, like cult films, horror movies, collectibles and rock n' roll.

Under the stars and moonlight on the Fairbanks Lawn, this year’s theme features a screening of one of Johnny’s favorite films, 1998's cult classic Buffalo ’66, introduced by its eccentric star and director Vincent Gallo, who was Johnny's very close and personal friend. In addition to the film screening, the 2017 Johnny Ramone Tribute will feature an exhibition of some rare and never-before-seen Ramones memorabilia from Johnny and Tommy Ramone's collection in the amazing mausoleum with Ramones art by Shepard Fairey, Lucas David and Shag. Billy Idol and Steve Jones will play some amazing acoustic songs. Also, a pop-up gallery from Morrison Hotel Gallery, DJ'd by the incredible Howie Pyro, food trucks and special celebrity guests including Fred Armisen, Rosanna Arquette, and many more.

The tribute will also feature a short ceremony in honor of Johnny and Linda's beloved friend Chris Cornell, who has been laid to rest right next to Johnny.

The Johnny Ramone Tribute is a fundraising event for the Johnny and Linda Ramone Foundation, which provides funding for Dr. David Agus at the Center for Applied Medicine at the Keck School of Medicine at USC.

Sylvan Esso Announce Echo Mountain Sessions Visual EP

SYLVAN ESSO RELEASE
ECHO MOUNTAINS SESSIONS VISUAL EP
OUT THIS FRIDAY, JULY 28TH

SHARING A VIDEO A DAY WITH NPR MUSIC

In April 2017 Sylvan Esso assembled a live band comprised of their close friends and collaborators- members of Mountain Man, Wye Oak, The Dead Tongues, The Mountain Goats and Megafaun- to arrange and record full-band versions of songs from their new album What Now. The band took this experiment to Echo Mountain Studios, located in the mountains of North Carolina, and cut five songs live in one day. The result, the Echo Mountain Sessions visual EP, is a testament to the New York Times’ declaration that “Sylvan Esso Keeps Electronic Pop Human”. These bold re-imaginations from the band’s celebrated sophomore album, What Now, highlight Amelia Meath and Nick Sanborn’s songwriting craft and the boundlessly talented North Carolina musical community from which they hail. Never ones to rest, Amelia Meath and Nick Sanborn continue to push themselves and expand on what Sylvan Esso can be. The Echo Mountain Sessions visual EP will be released July 28th, the band has also launched pre-orders for a limited edition vinyl release of the sessions available exclusively HERE.

Nick and Amelia chatted with Bob Boilen at All Songs Considered about the visual EP and will be rolling out a video a day, beginning with today's version of "Rewind".

What Now was released in April to widespread critical acclaim, with Variety proclaiming it “a sophomore effort that sees them progressing as far in one album as most groups do in two or three.“ They debuted their pulse-thumping single on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and reached #1 on Sirius AltNation this week.  What Now has already amassed 40 Million streams globally (5 times their debut album at the same point), currently averaging 1 Million streams per week + 1.5 Million monthly listeners on Spotify alone.   The album debuted at #3 on the Alternative charts, positioning it well within the Billboard Top 200.  What Now has racked up 60,000 albums sold (SEA) worldwide, in just 90 days.

Sylvan Esso’s electric live shows continue to sell out and they are gearing up for a massive summer tour that kicks off with performances at Celebrate Brooklyn’s Prospect Park Bandshell and Lollapalooza, a sold out west coast tour and culminating with their own one-day festival at Shakori Hills in North Carolina.

Minus the Bear announce fall tour w/ Silversun Pickups

MINUS THE BEAR ANNOUNCE NORTH AMERICAN FALL TOUR WITH SILVERSUN PICKUPS

NEW ALBUM VOIDS OUT NOW
ON SUICIDE SQUEEZE RECORDS

WATCH MINUS THE BEAR COVER FUGAZI ON AV CLUB
(AND ROCK SO HARD THEY BREAK THE AV CLUB SIGN)
Minus the Bear is thrilled to announce an extensive fall tour of North America with Silversun Pickups in continued support of their new album VOIDS, out now on Suicide Squeeze Records. The album won praise from the likes of Noisey who lauded the “dichotomy between dark imagery and danceable, inventive rock,” and Relix who called the album “an exceptionally cohesive effort that ranks among the best of its catalog to date.” Last week, the band appeared on AV Club’s “Undercover” series, where they expertly covered Fugazi’s “Waiting Room” (and accidentally busted the show’s brand new neon sign). Watch that video below and see a list of all upcoming tour dates including dates this August in Australia.

For the past 15 years Minus the Bear have made music on their own terms while carving out their own unique musical world, selling over 500k records in the process and playing to countless sold out crowds along the way. This isn’t to say they’re impervious to outside influence. They’ve borrowed components from a wide swath of genres—the brainy clangor of New York’s proto-punk scene, the cerebral buzz of IDM, the poptimist evaluation of hip-hop and R&B, and the grandiose visions of prog rock—but always managed to defy classification.

On their sixth album VOIDS, produced by Sam Bell (The Cribs, Weezer, Bloc Party, Two Door Cinema Club), Minus the Bear started with a blank slate, and inadvertently found themselves applying the same starting-from-scratch strategies that fueled their initial creative process. “There was a lot of change and uncertainty,” says guitarist David Knudson. “I think the general vibe of emptiness, replacement, lacking, and longing to fill in the gaps was very present in everyones’ minds.”

Minus The Bear is Jake Snider (vocals, guitar), Dave Knudson (guitar), Cory Murchy (bass guitar), and Alex Rose (synthesizers, vocals).

"This punk rapper from Milwaukee merges punk rock and rap so seamlessly, the end result is different yet familiar, polished yet effortless, and from start to finish, a nearly 30-minute banger."
- Alt Press

"Raised within the noise, punk rock, and underground rap communities of Wisconsin, Juiceboxxx has found a way to merge those sounds cohesively."
- Mass Appeal

"...he's a living document of a passion pursued, tattooed with euphoric successes...Now that the prevailing global mood matches Juiceboxxx's freaked out intensity, the world may have found a tragically contemporary rap anthem."
- The Fader

"Music lovers who were sonically aware in the late '90s and early aughts will find a lot to like in Juiceboxxx's debut single 'Freaking Out'. The tune somehow manages to incorporate in one single track some of the most mind blowing music of that era, from Beck's quirky-yet-groovy production style to the punchy and synthetic big beat of The Chemical Brothers, while adopting a tense rapping style in part reminiscent of The Beastie Boys."
- The Deli NYC

"...for so long people beyond a certain circle didn’t know what to make of him. But maybe that anxious energy of his music will be appreciated by folks wading through the uncertainty and insanity of the circus sideshow that is America 2k17."
- Tiny Mix Tapes

Alternative Press has streamed Juiceboxxx's new LP 'Freaked Out American Loser' a week before its release! When speaking about the LP Juiceboxxx states, "Freaked Out American Loser is my attempt to make a really concise, high-energy punk-rap record. I wanted to talk about the insane, confusing life that I have lived over the past decade and build on the language of my heroes. I wanted to make an honest record with some real nerve that speaks to the eternal basement freakout energy that has forever kept me going. Beyond anything else, I wanted to prove that we are all losers, but it's OK. Fuck everything, just keep going."

Prior to the album stream, Juiceboxxx released three singles, "Guts And Tension", "Freaking Out" and "Go To The Club Alone". All three of those tracks are featured on the new album which is out 7/28 on Dangerbird Records.  Also make sure to check out Juiceboxxx's recent freak out on Milwaukee's "Racine & Me", where he gave them a new theme song.

Juiceboxxx will be having his LP release party this Thursday at Caribe's Star Diner in Ridgewood, Queens.

Cold Specks Announces New LP Out 9/22 on Arts & Crafts, W Magazine Debuts Title Track + North American Tour

Cold Specks

Announces New Album, Fool’s Paradise,
Out September 22 via Arts & Crafts

Soulful Album Title Track Debuted With W Magazine Today

FOOL’S PARADISE WORLD TOUR 2017
North American Dates Announced

PRE-ORDER FOOL’S PARADISE

Today, Ladan Hussein, known on stage as Cold Specks, announced her highly anticipated new album Fool’s Paradise, set to release on September 22 via Arts & Crafts. The announce via W Magazine includes the premiere of album’s sultry title track “Fool’s Paradise.

The single “Fool’s Paradise” shows Hussein singing in Somali for the first time, calling out to a semi-mythical Somali queen of female empowerment named Araweelo, who was rumoured to castrate male prisoners. Like Cold Specks, Araweelo is a polarizing dream, always dangling between varying abstracts. Within the track is a Somali idiom, “kala garo naftaada iyo laftaada,” which translates in English to “understand the difference between your bones and your soul.”

“Fool’s Paradise” arrives on the heels of the recent single “Wild Card”. Quickly receiving accolades from The New York TimesIndie ShuffleConsequence of Sound and more, both tracks were produced and mixed by long-time collaborator Jim Anderson at Easy Life Studio in Toronto, with Tim Kingsbury of Arcade Fire performing bass.

Intimately exploring her identity as a Somali-Canadian woman, Fool’s Paradiseis Hussein’s most personal work yet. The album encapsulates the naturalness of existing during difficult times. Hussein recently learned about her family’s former life in Somalia - including her father’s musical legacy. During her 2015Neuroplasticity tour in Australia, Ladan discovered that her father helped form a famous band in the 1970s called Iftin. During the writing process, she dug deep into grainy VHS recordings found online of Iftin, and of many other Somali musicians, songs and videos that had survived war. “My parents never talked much about life in Mogadishu growing up” Hussein explains, “the war split up my family, scattered them around the world, left many missing, and those that made it were forever changed.” Saling her way to shore after grueling trial, error, and musical acclaim - Fool’s Paradise is the sound of finding home, identity, and self-love.

Cold Specks is set to launch the FOOL’S PARADISE WORLD TOUR 2017 with an extensive European tour and a slew of North American dates announced today with stops in NYC, Los Angeles, DC, Philadelphia, Denver, Nashville and more! Full dates can be found below. In 2015, Hussein followed her critically acclaimed debut LP, I Predict A Graceful Expulsion, with the release ofNeuroplasticity, both of which were nominated for the Polaris Music Prizewith the former also earning a JUNO Award nomination for Breakthrough Artist Of The Year. Between albums, when Cold Specks wasn’t writing or touring, Hussein was pinballing between asks from an enviable roll call of collaborators. She was asked to work on Moby’s album Innocents and was invited to play with Joni Mitchell at the singer’s 70th birthday alongside the likes of Herbie Hancock. She contributed to Ambrose Akinmusire's 2014 record for Blue Note and Swans’ 2014 album To Be Kind. These last two partnerships left a significant impression on Neuroplasticity resulting in the indomitable Swans founder Michael Gira and Akinmusire to both appear on the album. Most recently, she has worked with Massive Attack on the track “Dead Editors” featuring Roots Manuva from their 2016 Ritual Spirit EP.

Waxahatchee shares “Recite Remorse” music video and new November tour dates

Watch & share the music video for Waxahatchee's "Recite Remorse" now

Today, Waxahatchee has shared a music video for Out in the Storm’s “Recite Remorse,” a song that ABC News calls “a cathartic, almost celebratory hymn of survival.”

Director Ricardo Rivera elaborates on the making of the video:

I am a video installation artist first and foremost, and this was the perfect opportunity for me to create an interpretive installation. I created an immersive space with layered translucent fabric and video projections and filmed Katie Crutchfield reacting to those elements. Optical layering of imagery onto the fabric and onto Katie created a video effect similar to many music videos of the ’90s, but done in practical way. Dreamy vibes for a dreamy song.

Listen to Out in the Storm now, and purchase the LP or CD in the Merge store.
Waxahatchee is currently on the west coast in the midst of a North American tour, with European shows in the fall (Allison Crutchfield & The Fizz support) and newly announced November dates with Ought. Chicago Tribune caught the Thalia Hall show on Wednesday, proclaiming, “Waxahatchee has emerged as a genuine band. Played by upwards of three electric guitars and a brawny rhythm section capable of pouncing on the beat, several of Crutchfield’s early works sounded transformed.” A full list of tour dates can be found below.
